Houston Rockets James Harden donates $1million for Harvey

NBA star James Harden has become the latest in a long line of celebrities and sports figures to donate to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The Houston Rockets point guard says he will donate $1million to Houston to aid in the city’s recovery.

Harden is in his fifth year with the Rockets and signed a six year deal in July for a guaranteed $228million.

Harden made the announcement alongside Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Saturday at the NRG Center which has been housing evacuees since the natural disaster devastated the city, according to WCVB.

Meanwhile Rockets owner Leslie Alexander has upped his Harvey contributions from $4million to $10million.  

President Donald Trump has contributed $1million of his own money, as has Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Ellen DeGeneres has also donated $1million of her own money to help in the efforts to rebuild Texas.  

J.J. Watts, defensive end for the Houston Texans had started his fundraising efforts with a goal of $200,000 and has far surpassed that reaching the $15million mark.

In Texas, the storm damage is staggering with estimates between $48 billion and $75 billion.
