How a mother-of-three, 48, saved $5,000 by overhauling her fitness routine

Most mothers would reason they have a lack of time (and energy) to get to the gym as often as they might like to.

And for Gina Tambasco that struggle was no different, with the mother-of-three looking for a more cost effective way to stay fit.

The 48-year-old decided to take matters into her own hands by ending sessions with her personal trainer a year ago, telling FEMAIL it was one of the best decisions she’s ever made.

And it has saved her an impressive $5,000.

‘I’m out of bed between 5.30-6am to do a different home workout everyday. I train on my own watching the sunrise,’ she admitted.

‘It’s part of my daily routine. Sometimes I include hand weights for strength training, otherwise, an exercise mat is the only thing necessary.’

Gina explained how she keeps things exciting using a variety of HIIT-style routines and core training.

‘I do lower body, upper body, Pilates, and low impact workouts. It’s all over in 30 minutes – then I shower, prepare school lunches, get kids out the day and start my work day for my own business,’ she said.

‘This routine has transformed my life, giving me choice, flexibility and results. Not only do I have more energy and focus than ever before, but my bank account has never been healthier.

‘Joining the gym is a thing of the past, and home workouts, the present!’.

It can be tough to slot in time before or after work to move your body, but if all the ingredients are at home it doesn’t leave you with any excuses.

One in three Australians sign up to gyms every year, yet the number of people using their membership is considerably lower, suggesting that for many, joining a gym is not the answer.

Whilst home gyms have long been considered the ultimate accessory for the fitness enthusiast, they’re becoming more and more popular among ‘casual’ exercise-lovers – especially when the equipment is increasingly more affordable.

If you have room in your home, why not go the whole hog: dedicate a room, or part of it at least, to your fitness equipment – like a cross trainer and treadmill.

But if you’re short on space, a few essentials such as a yoga mat, foam rollers and varying weights are all you need.

If you time your shopping to coincide with sales, such as at the end of the financial year, you’re guaranteed to pick up a bargain for athletic gear.

Retailers like Catch.com.au offer quality equipment at half the retail price – so it’s cheaper than a monthly membership.
