‘How does this even happen?!’: Fans left baffled by bizarre goal scored by Leicester’s GOALKEEPER as he dribbles up the pitch before firing home winner

Fans were left baffled after a video of Leicester goalkeeper Brad Young scoring the winner in a game for the Foxes’ Under 21 side went viral on social media.

Young, 22, joined Leicester from Hartlepool in 2021 and is a regular for their second string team.

But, despite a short loan spell at Notts County in 2022, he is not very well-known outside of the East Midlands.

However, that changed over the weekend after he remarkably netted the winner for Leicester in the final of the 2024 HKFC Soccer Sevens Main Shield tournament.

In the showdown against Rangers, Young was seen wandering up the pitch with the ball before rifling a fierce effort into the net, sparking major celebrations among his team-mates as they lifted the trophy.

With the 22-year-old unchallenged by Rangers’ stars, he unleashed a fierce drive towards goal

The competition took place across the weekend in Hong Kong and along with a men’s tournament, there are women’s and masters editions. 

The men’s event consisted of seven British teams and local sides from Asia playing seven-a-side matches across two fast-paced seven-minute halves.

Leicester first team stars Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Hamza Choudhury are among those to have previously played in the tournament.

The Foxes were drawn in a group with Newcastle, Singapore Cricket Club and Tai Po, but despite topping this, they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the main tournament to eventual winners Brighton.

This meant they dropped into the ‘Shield’, where they beat West Ham on penalties – with Young saving twice to take Leicester through to the final.

After a 1-1 draw in normal time against Rangers, the clash headed on to extra-time.

The goal sparked celebrations among his team-mates, who ran onto the pitch to mob Young

However, the rules of the tournament dictated that each team was reduced to four-a-side, while a ‘Golden Goal’ rule applied, meaning whoever scored first would be declared the winner. 

This explains why Young was miles up the pitch and striding towards Rangers’ goal as Leicester looked to score before the four-minute period was over. 

Young had already had one effort cleared off the line, before he fired in the winner to make himself Leicester’s hero as they concluded the trophy with silverware.
