On my father’s advice, I took out personal contract purchase (PCP) loans three times to buy a new car without breaking the bank.
Then the scandal erupted and I realised I might have been caught.
I’ve received unsolicited offers from claims management firms, but they seem greedy and aggressive, so I went it alone using the Money Saving Expert website.
I filled out details of my car and finance provider, Stellantis. Within a week, I found one of my loans involved a discretionary commission. Stellantis promised to be back in touch, but I heard nothing.

When prompted, it emailed back to say the case was closed, with no explanation. After trying other avenues in the firm, I got a confusing follow-up email, which seemed to suggest I could be updated this week but also said some complaints would not be addressed until at least May next year.
It also said: ‘Given this is an evolving situation, we are directing customers to the Financial Conduct Authority’s website.’
Not great, but I still will not use a claims specialist, most of whom take huge chunks of compensation.
