Winner of $30million Oz Lotto prize refuses to believe the life-changing news and ‘goes back to eating his dinner’ – one of eight golf buddies to share the windfall

A group of eight mates in their 40s were the sole winners of the biggest Oz Lotto draw of the year so far, worth an staggering $30million. 

The friends from Western Australia said they decided to enter Tuesday’s draw together after a few rounds of golf and bought their tickets from the state’s lottery service, Lotterywest.

One of the men said he was enjoying a roast beef dinner with his wife when he decided to check the lucky ticket online. 

‘I started making calls to the rest of the group to tell them we’d won,’ he said.

‘One of the guys didn’t believe me and went back to eating his dinner.

‘Another group member told me that if it was a prank he would come over and I’d be in a lot of trouble.’

After staying up most of the night celebrating, the group headed into the lottery office to claim their prize on Wednesday morning.

They had purchased a Slikpik 50 ticket, also known as a QuickPick, and are the sixth division one winners of 2023.

The friends said they plan to use the money to pay off their mortgages and go on an overseas holiday.

One said he will use part of his share to upgrade his car from the one he bought as a teenager when he got his P-plates. 

Tuesday’s winning numbers were 19, 47, 15, 46, 12, 9 and 21 with the supplementary numbers 16, 34 and 30. 

Another six players took home $64,355.20 from the division two prize pool and another 88 division three winners received $5,185.65 each.

Two of those division two players were also Western Australians who purchased their tickets through Lotterywest.

‘We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome yet another big win for WA, only a few weeks after celebrating a Swan Valley family taking home $40 million in Powerball,’ Lotterywest CEO Ralph Addis said of the mates’ victory.

‘The WA community is also a winner following Tuesday’s draw, with more than $1.27million raised thanks to players over the five-week jackpot roll which will contribute to our grants program.’

The jackpot was the largest offered by Oz Lotto so far this year, only equalled by the upcoming Powerball draw on Thursday for the country’s biggest 2023 lottery prize.
