Former Married At First Sight contestants have dished the dirt on how much they earned while filming the reality dating series.

And while many brides and grooms searching for love see cash rolling in after their stint on the show, the amount they actually earn during production is surprisingly dismal.

Nasser Sultan, who appeared in season five in 2018, revealed the exact amount he would make each day, which didn’t cover certain expenses.

‘You get $150 for the day, that’s it,’ he told Now to Love.

‘But on top of that, you have to pay expenses – your living expenses with the woman that you marry.’

‘It’s not $150 clear. You still have to pay rent if you’re renting, you’ve gotta pay your rego and it’s 12 hour filming days,’ he added.

Nasser, who ‘married’ bride Gabrielle Bartlett, added that none of the stars’ groceries were covered and claimed producers would make them shop at the same expensive grocery store when filming.

‘Gab and I would sometimes spend up to $70 a day on just living, so we didn’t have much left after that,’ he said.

The controversial star also claimed he earned less than some of his co-stars, calling out Davina Rankin and Sarah Roza who he says made $50 more than him.

‘Basically, the more you did for the show, the more you got,’ he continued.

Meanwhile, Mikey Pembroke from 2020’s season seven claimed that participants didn’t earn a dime while filming MAFS – and that the only money they received was to ‘live off’ while filming.

‘You don’t get paid at all – this is a thing that needs to change,’ he said on the I’ve Got News For You podcast.

‘But the show makes an incredible amount of money. And say you were on, you know, a TV show that does really well, the actors get paid more and more because it’s doing so well.’

The 2023 season of MAFS is set to premiere on Monday night, with more twists and bombshells than ever before.

But some viewers are convinced the upcoming season was filmed on a budget after noticing a small detail in the cast’s publicity photos.

Eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice the pictures of the brides and grooms looked ‘washed out’ and hadn’t been colour-corrected.

A user in the Tea Time Facebook group shared a series of side-by-side images of brides Tahnee Cook and Bronte Schofield, as well as groom Harrison Boon (pictured) 

‘So the new MAFS cast has been announced and I’m predicting major budget cuts have been made to the show,’ a woman wrote in a Facebook group this week. 

‘All their photos haven’t been colour-corrected and they look like they are frozen,’ she added, noting the photos gave the contestants more of a ‘blue tone’ rather than simply appearing pale.

According to on-set sources, one groom has already been labelled ‘worse than Bryce’, while another bride and groom accuse each other of ‘gaslighting each other’ and playing mind games.

‘Gaslighting gets tackled again, but other things about the way people treat each other in relationships, which for us – we think we’ve seen it all – is shocking…’ MAFS boss Tara McWilliams told Variety last week.

‘If we’re being shocked still, then you know the content’s pretty ballsy,’ she continued.

‘We have scandals again, but scandals that you haven’t seen. And that’s what I love about this, the reality Gods have really kind of smiled down on us.’
