A savvy customer has discovered a little-known loophole to scoring a free pair of socks at Australian iconic retailer R.M. Williams.

Giorgio Savini, who runs the popular Kick it Forward podcast with Josh Garlepp and Harry Fitzgerald, recently heard through the grapevine that shoppers get to keep the socks after trying on the luxury boots in stores.

It’s unclear which type of socks customers are walking away with, but a pair from R.M. Williams typically costs between $29 to $49.

To put the theory to the test, Giorgio decided to go undercover, visiting three stores across Melbourne CBD to see if he could get the socks without paying a cent.

Much to his surprise, he walked away with three pairs of black socks.

‘A little birdie told me that if you don’t have socks and you go to an R.M. Williams, they’ll give you a free pair of socks to keep,’ he said in a video.

The footage shows Giorgio entering the first store, where he casually asked an employee if he can try on the iconic Craftsman boots.

‘Just wanting to see what size I am… I don’t have any socks on me,’ Giorgio said to the worker.

The employee replied, ‘Yeah we can give you a pair’.

‘Feel free to keep the socks as well.’

Giorgio thanked the worker for letting him keep the ‘very nice’ socks.

He then proudly walked out of the store wearing his new socks, along with his Birkenstock sandals.

After his first success, Giorgio visited the second location where he told the employee didn’t have any socks on him but was keen to try on a pair of boots.

‘We’ve got plenty of socks,’ the employee replied.

The potential customer then suggested he would return the socks once he tried on the boots, but the worker insisted: ‘You can actually keep that if you want.’

Giorgio then asked: ‘Are you sure?’ to which the staff member responded: ‘Yeah.’

In his final attempt, he decided to test his luck and see if he could get away with scoring a third pair of socks for free.

‘We were going for the trifecta,’ he said.

As he waited for the employee to bring out a pair of boots to try on, Giorgio said: ‘I just don’t have any socks?’

The staff member then responded, ‘No worries, I’ll get you some socks.

‘You can actually keep the socks as well.’

Delighted that he managed to get free socks from all three stores, Giorgio said: ‘We did it.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted R.M. Williams for comment.
