How to have perfect skin WITHOUT foundation

While some are blessed with naturally clear, blemish-free skin, others spend hours in the mirror each day attempting to master that increasingly popular ‘no make up’ make up look.

So in a bid to help women cut down their beauty regime and hone their skills, Australian beauty guru and YouTuber, Lauren Curtis, has shared the secret to faking great skin without using a drop of foundation.

‘I used to wear a full face of foundation and make up and now I hardly ever wear it unless I’m going out somewhere,’ the 24-year-old Priceline Beauty School ambassador said in a video tutorial.

'We can't all be lucky enough to wake up in the morning and not have to worry about breakouts, dryness, dark circles or dull-looking skin - some of us have to fake it till we make it,' she said

Here, FEMAIL looks at how Lauren has mastered her own natural look and her tips for those wishing to do the same.

MOISTURISE

‘You cant expect to have great skin if its not properly taken care of, it needs to be hydrated, nourished and exfoliated and you need to use serums on it, moisturisers, eye creams, night creams.

‘Whatever your skin needs, make sure you give it that,’ she instructed in the video.

Although people put emphasis on priming the skin, Lauren said you need to make sure the skin is properly nourished first.

‘The better you take care of your skin, the less you will need to ‘fake it’.’

LAUREN’S TOP FOUR PRODUCTS USED

1. Innoxa Skin Perfect Pore Vanishing Cream: This primer does an incredible job of smoothing over any pores, wrinkles, fine lines or uneven skin texture

2. The Covergirl Supersizer Mascara: The brush works to coat and separate your lashes at the same time, so not only do you get full, voluminous lashes, but it also fans them out and elongates them

3. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent: This powder mattifies your skin and ensures your makeup will look its best all day long

4. Maybelline FitMe Concealer: This concealer has such great coverage and a light consistency that you’ll feel like you’re hardly wearing it at all. Choose a light shade for underneath the eyes or your foundation shade for the face and you’re covered

PRIME

Lauren explained that she doesn’t always use primer but when she does she ensures that it is light on the skin.

‘I like to use my hands for this so I can really work it in, it looks more natural that way instead of sitting on top of skin,’ she said.

'I never want anyone to feel ashamed for wearing any amount of make up, I'm just saying if you can, only wear it when you need it,' she said

CONCEAL

Lauren uses concealer sparingly and applies it to any blemishes that she may have on her face.

‘Keep in mind that the less you use the less obvious it will be that you’re wearing any.

‘Of course if you have acne or irritated skin or lots of spots, feel free to use as much as you want.

She uses her finger to massage the product in because it’s warm and really ‘pushes the product into the skin’.

HIGHLIGHT

Highlighter can help add a subtle shimmer to your face and helps to add the illusion of brightness and height.

She explained that bringing attention to other areas of your face will bring attention away from the areas that you’re insecure about.

‘I like to add highlighter to the highest points of my cheekbones, down my nose and on my cupid’s bow – anywhere the sun would naturally hit,’ Lauren stated in the video.

POWDER AND MASCARA

‘This is optional and is usually only necessary if you have oily skin,’ she said.

‘If it’s a particularly hot day I’ll use a small amount of translucent powder on my forehead, on each side of my nose and on my chin.’

The powder helps to blot sweat and ensure a matte finish.

She also explained that she always wears mascara because she believes her blonde lashes can look ‘translucent’.

LIP BALM

‘I can’t live without my lip balm… It hydrates my lips and adds a beautiful soft pink tint.’

Lauren opted to use her finger to apply the balm instead of putting it on directly as she said this way it acts more like a lip stain.
