How to make a Greggs Steak Bake at home: Chain reveals the recipe for its famous pastry – and spills the secret to creating the chicken version too

Greggs has become the latest high street chain to reveal its recipes after the chain closed its doors 50 days ago amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Newcastle-based firm, has shared the simple 10 step recipe for its chicken and steak bakes, which require just five ingredients if you buy ready-made pastry, to its Facebook page.

It’s also shared the recipe for its Chicken Bake, which is an indulgent treat containing double cream and cream cheese. 

It comes after McDonald’s, Pizza Express and Ikea delighted fans by sharing their usually top secret recipes.

HOW TO MAKE A GREGGS STEAK BAKE AT HOME 

INGREDIENTS

Finley diced beef

Beef stock

 Cornflour (or flour) mixed with water

Puff pastry 

An Egg 

 METHOD

1. Sizzle beef in a frying pan until browned

2. Pour on beef stock

3. Add the cornflour mix

4. Thicken to taste and leave to cool

5. Cut two pieces of pastry (108 x 94mm for accuracy)

 6. Egg wash the edges

7. Spoon on the fillings

8.Pop the top of and fork the edges

9. Score six lines and egg wash it

10. Stick in the oven for 20mins at 200C (or until golden brown and piping hot)

INGREDIENTS

Small chunks of chicken 

Chicken stock

Double cream 

 Cornflour (or flour) mixed with water

Puff pastry 

An Egg 

Cream cheese 

METHOD 

1. Chuck your chicken in

 2.Fry it off

 3. Add the chicken stock and bring to a simmer

 4. Thicken to taste with your cornflour mix

5. Add some double cream and cream cheese and season to taste 

 6.  Cut two pieces of pastry (108 x 94mm for accuracy)

7. Egg wash the edges

8. Spoon on the fillings

9.Pop the top of and fork the edges

10. Score six wavy lines and egg wash it

11. Stick in the oven for 20mins at 200C (or until golden brown and piping hot)

How to make a Greggs pasty at home 

Just like McDonalds, Greggs has shared how to make its famous sausage bean and cheese melt at home.

In a video shared to Greggs’ Facebook page the chain takes fans through a step-by-step process on how to put together the much loved melt.

To assemble, all you need is a can of baked beans with sausages, cheese, puff pastry and an egg. 

Start by preheating your oven to 180C/Gas mark 4.

Then cut out two squares of puff pastry and egg wash the edges.  

The, put the bean and sausage mix into a bowl and mash it with a fork before placing the mixture in the pre-rolled pastry. 

Sprinkle the cheese on top and place the other piece of pastry on top, then push down your fork to the edges of the square to seal the parcel.

Do another egg wash across the entire pasty and bake for 20 minutes.
