How to wear… white jeans

Like most of us I live in jeans: straight, boyfriend, wide, cropped flare, even the long-lost boot leg – my wardrobe has an open-door policy. But only if they are blue. Elizabeth Hurley may be the poster-girl for spanking-white jeans but I’ve always been put off by their Sloane Ranger connotations. However, with white the denim of choice for the cooler-than-cool set at the fashion shows, this summer white jeans are making their debut in my wardrobe – although I’ll be giving the skinnies a miss in favour of more forgiving and updated cuts. I’ll also be pairing mine with my favourite blue striped shirt or with bags and accessories in this season’s It-shade, lilac. In short, white’s all right by me.

Cropped kick flare

The universally flattering boot-cut gets a revamp. This style’s shorter length and wider hem balances proportions and allows for a flash of ankle – what better way to draw attention to a cute kitten-heel slingback? Candy shades and nautical stripes always go well with white

Straight leg

Straight-leg jeans are the new classic (which is lucky for me and my anti-skinny stance) and for good reason – the style suits almost everyone. The raw hemline on this Mix/Osman at Next pair adds to their casual-chic look. Carry this through to your footwear with flat mules in neutral tones.

Wide-leg culottes

These wide-leg ankle-grazer jeans sit high on the waist for a surprisingly flattering fit. Tuck in a T-shirt or blouse or try a shirt worn loose for a sleeker look. A preppy loafer will smarten them up; a colour-pop trainer will add a sports-luxe vibe.
