Huge fire breaks out in Glasgow office block sending smoke billowing across the city

A huge fire is raging in Glasgow, sending smoke billowing across the city centre.

The blaze ripped through the boiler room of a modern office block in Cadogan Street, where four fire engines were in attendance.

Fire crews raced to the scene after receiving a call at 8.50am and the blaze was declared ‘under control’ by the Scottish Fire and Rescue service at about 9:30am.

Plumes of smoke were seen billowing across the city as four fire engines containing 15 firefighters battled the blaze.

There have been reports that the fire took place at Glasgow City Council offices but this has not been confirmed, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

But it has been confirmed that the blaze originated in a modern office block which is being renovated.

Workmen were evacuated from the building and there are no reported injuries.

Footage captured by a witness driving past the scene shows police vans and fire engines parked at the entrance to Cadogan Street, which has been cordoned off.
