And the A Beautiful Mind star opened up about his upcoming Glastonbury debut in an interview with Sky News, confirming the band will be playing in the acoustic tent, and advised fans to leave behind his acting status but just ‘come for the music’.

‘We’re going to blow that place up. It’s like, chuck, all the celebrity bulls**t aside, or the fame for doing some other job aside. You’ll see a serious band and it’s full of monster musicians who know what they’re doing,’ he told.

It might come as a surprise for many yet Russell has been touring and playing in pubs and clubs way longer before he started his acting career.

The New Zealand-born actor remarked that while film sets ‘tend to be very control’ and you’ve got to ‘respect the gods of film’ – a stage is quite the opposite because the response is up to the audience to respond.

‘It doesn’t matter what you’ve necessarily prepared, the way the audience responds and everything will adjust and move that show. It’s that kind of anarchy, where you just don’t really know for sure what’s going to happen, that is really attractive,’ he said.

The rock band has an eclectic style which blends rock, blues, gospel and even country.

Formed in 2009, the music group is composed of The Gentlemen Barbers band, which is made up of artists including members of his previous groups, Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts and The Ordinary Fear Of God, and singer Lorraine O’Reilly.

Glastonbury fans will be treated to new songs live from the band’s latest album, Prose and Cons.

Talking about the concept behind the album cover, which captures a man from behind by the sea, the Robin Hood sensation revealed he took it himself with his own iPhone at a place called Woolloomooloo, in Sydney.

‘I was just walking around the bay and there was a man standing; it was a winter’s morning and it’s quite cold, Sydney Harbour water, in winter, and I think that’s probably what he was contemplating, the temperature he was about to experience.’

He added the artsy shot looks ‘painterly’ yet they didn’t add any filters to it, keeping its autenthicity.
