This is the ‘magical’ moment when a huge lake freighter covered in ice and snow comes into a Minnesota harbor at sunset on New Year’s Eve.

The video was shot by an excited Duluth resident who claimed not to have seen anything like it in their three decades living there.

The footage shows the 1,000ft lake freighter sail through the icy water as the sun sets.

Due to the cold, the ship is covered in ice from top to hull. The normally red bow of the ship is white and covered in icicles.

The crew on the cargo ship can be seen waving at the crowd gathered on shore as they go past them.

The person behind the camera wrote: ‘I went down to Canal Park in Duluth, Minnesota to marvel at the sea smoke in the below zero temps.

‘When I was driving out of the parking lot, noticed that the Aerial Bridge was going up and made a u-turn and saw the marvelous Presque Isle, a 1,000 foot laker, heading into the harbor.

‘The almost full moon was rising, the sun was setting, the laker was ice covered — with even a heart shape on the side!

‘Crew was happy, mini die hard crowd was happy and it was the most magical New Years Eve moment I’ve ever seen in my 33 years living in Duluth!’
