Hugh Jackman, 56, admits he’s ‘grateful for the love’ in birthday post – after family and friends expressed concern for actor following his divorce from Deborra Lee-Furness

Hugh Jackman has celebrated his 56th birthday in a new social media post.

The Deadpool & Wolverine star took to Instagram on Monday to thank family and friends for their ‘love’ following a turbulent year.

‘Thank you all for the incredible birthday love! I am grateful. #thisis56’ he wrote alongside photos of himself blowing out a single candle atop a birthday cake.

The post comes amid reports family and friends have been ‘worried’ about Hugh following his split with wife Deborra-Lee Furness a year ago after 27 years of marriage.

The Australian actor is putting the finishing touches on his tell-all memoir, which promises to drop major bombshells about his life, and one close pal claims he is apprehensive about opening up.

‘He’s nervous, of course, because he’s always had his characters or his family to hide behind,’ a source told Woman’s Day.

‘He’s never felt like this real hardman he’s made out to be and he’s worried his natural-born geekiness will ruin his image,’ they added, before admitting many of Hugh’s circle are concerned for him.

‘Honestly, we’ve all been a bit worried about him. He’s been so focused on Deb and the kids and making sure they’re all taken care of in this divorce, that he kind of got lost there.’

Fans have speculated what the big revelation in the memoir might be, and the source has claimed that Hugh is much more comfortable now that things with ex-wife Deborra, 68, have stabilised.

‘There’s a lot of explaining to do! He’s now in a much more comfortable situation with Deb… they have a comfortable and supportive friendship now and they’re both a lot happier,’ the family friend said.

Hugh has been navigating life as a single man after ending his marriage last year.

‘Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.

We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives,’ the statement read.

The exes signed the statement ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman,’ adding: ‘This is the sole statement either of us will make.’

They married on April 11, 1996, less than a year after they met, saying ‘I do’ at a Melbourne church. At the time, he was 27 and she was 41.

Hugh and Deb share two children together: Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.
