Hugh Jackman retirement fears as he retreats to ‘reflect’

Earlier this year, Hugh Jackman announced he’d step down from the Wolverine role that cemented his star status.

Now, the overworked actor has sparked retirement concerns, confirming his promo duties for The Greatest Showman will be followed by ‘a period of unemployment.’

‘I’m really proud of everything I’ve done,’ he told TheFix on Wednesday, ‘But I want to just take a little time to reflect, to just reassess and see where I head from here.’

‘Time to reassess’: On Wednesday, Hugh Jackman sparked retirement concerns, confirming his promo duties for The Greatest Showman will be followed by ‘a period of unemployment’

While the 49-year-old certainly didn’t announce any plans to retire, it’s the first time the actor has sounded so murky on his future.

Known for his unrelenting workaholism and dedication to spending time with fans, the interviewer struggled to even think of what Hugh would do with ‘spare time.’

‘What does Hugh Jackman do with his spare time? Are you binging junk food and watching TV, or what happens?’ she asked.

An excited smile swept across his face, as he thought about having to do nothing for the first time in years.

‘I’ll tell you tomorrow!’ he beamed, ‘It [unemployment] starts tomorrow.’

‘Um, I love to read and I love the outdoors and I’m probably a quieter person than you’d think,’ he reflected.

Continuing to list of the possibilities, he added: ‘I like to cook I like the theatre, what else do I love? I like sport…’

‘There’s nothing like being at home,’ he said, offering his biggest smile in some time.

‘There’s nothing like swimming at Bondi Beach on Christmas morning.’
