Hull owner Acun Ilicali has said he will provide fresh water and temporary housing to those that have been affected by the earthquake in southern Turkey and Syria.

Over 11,000 people have been killed and thousands more injured in a catastrophic 7.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria earlier this week.

Tremors from the deadly quake – which lasted about a minute and could be Turkey’s largest ever – were felt as far away as Egypt, Lebanon and the island of Cyprus.

Residents were jolted awake and fled from their homes in terror into the cold, rainy and snowy night across southeast Turkey and northern Syria.

Concerns grew for people trapped under the rubble as thousands of rescue workers jumped into action, searching through giant piles of concrete for survivors.

More than 11,000 people have been killed and millions more have been left homeless after the earthquake.

Ilicali is eager to help those in need and offered to provide fresh food and temporary water to the victims of the earthquake.

The broadcaster and reporter also said he would fundraise money using his TV channel in Turkey.

The 53-year-old told Sky Sports: ‘I’m sending 100 trucks, fresh water because they don’t have fresh water. At the moment there’s a big water crisis in the area.

‘So I’m just thinking about sending 100 big trucks to the area and also I’m trying to supply modular (pre-fab) houses so my people can be safe after this big shock.’

He went on to add : ‘I’m also trying, and very probably going to do it, in the following days – I have the number one channel in Turkey (TV8) at the moment and we’re going to try and organise a special night on my channel to support the people who are affected.

‘I think that can be a historical night, that all Turkey will come together. Maybe we can plan for all the channels to come together, I’m trying to organise more support.

‘The best way with these kind of things, everybody is united, yes, everybody wants to help, yes, but just organising is something else.

‘My job is not just to support. Even if I just support as much as I can, when you consider the area, how can I help all the people?

‘So the best way is to make the organisation. We did it five years ago because of the earthquake. We made more than £30million in three hours, aid for the area.

‘So what I’m planning is to make it a big night, be the host and motivate people to support the people who are affected.’

Meanwhile, Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan has donated two truckloads of bread to the areas most affected by the earthquake.

He also took to social media to urge others to help. He said: ‘My family and I have been enormously preoccupied by the events. Our thoughts are now with the people in the crisis areas. It is essential that we all stick together now. The people need our help.’

He went on to add: ‘The encouragement and support we have received so far has been great! We are currently trying to collect more food and material donations like baby food, blankets, hygiene products and warm clothing. Then, in coordination with the Turkish embassy in London, we will initiate the transport to Turkey’.
