Huma Abedin returns home on her first day as single parent

Huma Abedin was spotted arriving at her New York City apartment on her first day of being a single parent as her estranged husband Anthony Weiner starts his 21-month prison sentence.

The 41-year-old was pictured behind the wheel of her car as she returned home on Monday morning, presumably after dropping her five-year-old son Jordan at school.

Abedin, a longtime Hillary Clinton aide, hid her gaunt appearance behind dark glasses and wore a sky blue blouse and multi-colored vest as she gripped the steering wheel.

Her return home came around the same time her estranged husband was dropped off at a Massachusetts prison by his brother to begin his 21-month sentence for sending explicit texts to a 15-year-old high school student.

Both Abedin and Weiner have been spotted making several school drop-off runs together of late in the lead up to the disgraced congressman being incarcerated.

They were last pictured together in public on Halloween as they held hands with their son Jordan on the way to his school.

Weiner was spotted giving his son a kiss before letting Huma and Jordan continue to the school together. As part of his sentence, Weiner agreed to register as a sex offender, meaning he is prevented from going within a certain distance of schools.

The 53-year-old spent his final day of freedom on Sunday in his Manhattan apartment with his father Morton who was spotted at a nearby Starbucks during the day.

His younger brother Jason drove the disgraced politician to Devens Prison in the northern Massachusetts town of Ayers early Monday morning.

It marks the end of a long descent for the former political star, whose compulsive sexting habit and repeated scandals wrecked his congressional career, his promising campaign for New York City mayor and his marriage to Hillary Clinton’s closest aide.

Weiner’s conduct ultimately caught the attention of federal authorities after DailyMail.com first revealed last September Weiner’s secret sexting relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Abedin filed for divorce from Weiner in May on the same day he pleaded guilty to sexting with a minor.

Before Weiner was sentenced, Abedin wrote a letter as part of the case asking for mercy as she begged for the judge’s sentencing not to have a ‘negative impact’ on their son.

She told authorities she was ‘devastated’ by the actions of her husband of seven years, and pointed out she was writing the letter for the benefit of their son, whom she called ‘the light of our life’.
