I am a relationship expert – if you have been dating a man for three months and he hasn’t done this one thing then you are wasting your time: ‘Walk away’

If a man doesn’t say ‘I love you’ within three months he’s ‘not the one’ according to a self-described ‘no-nonsense’ dating expert.

Controversial Australian dating coach Jake Maddock sparked a heated debate when he laid down the law about how long it should take a man to declare his love.

‘If your partner doesn’t say very clearly ‘I love you’ by twelve weeks, then he’s not your ideal partner and you’ve wasted your time,’ Jake said in a video online.

‘Twelve weeks, not 52, twelve weeks, three months – that’s all you’ve got,’ the expert insisted. ‘I love you’ is the key to a successful relationship.’

He said that woman who stayed with their partners beyond this time without being told they were loved were just ‘wasting their time on potential’.

‘You’ll know with your ideal partner, and they’ll know, too,’ Jake added.

Men and women were sharply divided about Jake’s firm cut off time for knowing whether a relationship was going to work out or not, but quite a few people called the harsh advice ‘facts’.

‘Yep the 90 day rule! After that you’re wasting your time,’ one woman said.

Controversial relationship coach Jake Maddock said woman needed to call it on quits on a relationship if their partner hadn’t clearly said ‘I love you’ within the first three months

Jake thought the three month cut off was the key to a successful relationship, and that many women waste time by staying with a partner who isn't clear about how he feels about them

‘Unpopular opinion, but I agree. I was married in less than 12 weeks, and I am happily married to my best friend celebrating 10 years next month,’ another woman said.

‘When you’re ready, ladies, ask those hard questions and know what you want, don’t settle, and when you find him, trust me, you will know in less than 12 weeks,’ she added.

Others said called it ‘wild’ to put a time frame on love and insisted that three months was definitely too early to know for sure.

‘After being married 43 years, that is absurd,’ one woman said.

‘That’s way too soon. You’re tripping,’ another woman agreed.

People who defended Jake’s ‘tough love’ rule accused those who thought that three months was too soon, of being ‘unhealed train wrecks’.

‘You should not need that long to feel love feelings or you’re very damaged, if so, stop dating and work on yourself,’ one woman said.

Others shot back that those who say I love you too soon are often guilty of ‘love bombing’, as it’s an easy word to throw around.

‘My ex-boyfriend said I love you after a week, I wish I ran then… love bomber at its finest,’ one woman said.

One woman made Jake resort to the grimace emoji when she said she was still waiting for an ‘I love you’ after 16 months.

This isn’t the first hard and fast dating rule that the relationship expert had shared with his fans.

Jake said that he had cracked the code for single woman looking for the right aged men to date.

Mr Maddock believes that single woman need to be with men who are at least ten years older than they are.

‘An older man is likely to be less commitment phobic and more decisive about where he wants to take the relationship,’ Jake said.

‘He will also have a more mature viewpoint when it comes to solving problems and relationship issues,’ he added.
