‘I can’t WAIT to try it!’ Foodies go wild over salt and vinegar mayonnaise

Foodies have been going wild over the latest condiment release from M&S – with the brand calling it the perfect addition to fish and chips.

The supermarket chain delighted fans by announcing they are launching a Salt and Vinegar mayonnaise on their Instagram page yesterday.

The sauce is actually the world’s first salt and vinegar mayonnaise, with M&S claiming it’s the perfect dip for accompanying traditional British dishes.

After the supermarket brand shared the news on Instagram, many fans were wowed by the new creation.

One person commented it was a ‘game changer’, while another added: ‘Can’t wait to try this!’

Another wrote: ‘Got to try this!’

A third added: ‘It’s a yes from me.’

A fourth commented: ‘Yes!!! Ship to the US?’

However one person appeared a little unsure of the product, saying: ‘Not quite sure what I think about this one!’

Sharing the news on the official account, the high end supermarket wrote: ‘As Brits, we all LOVE salt and vinegar on our chips, then dipping them in mayo… right?’

‘So we thought we’d go one step further and make things a little easier by combining all three – introducing our brand-new, world-first salt and vinegar mayo.

‘Yep, you read that right. SALT and VINEGAR MAYONNAISE!’

The caption continued: ‘It’s the *ultimate* condiment for fish and chips this summer, but the dipping options are endless.

Many foodie fans went wild over the release, with one commenting that they 'couldn't wait to try' the condiment

‘What will you be having yours with?’

While many foodies went wild over the creation, it’s far from the first  unusual release from recent months.

Just in time for Easter, Heinz launched its Creme Egg mayonnaise in collaboration with chocolatier Cadbury.

Following the announcement of the product, people on Twitter again were unconvinced and aired their views, appearing unimpressed.

‘Please tell me the Creme egg mayo was an April Fools?’ one wrote. ‘It sounds vile,’ another commented.

And last month, Heinz formed an unlikely partnership with Absolute Vodka to create a vodka sauce for your pasta of choice (the classic option being penne).

The brands say they have been inspired by the recipe which went viral on TikTok in 2020 during lockdowns, when amateur chefs on the platform shared their own versions of the pasta recipe.

For lovers of the recipe who don’t feel they have the time to spend in the kitchen, the sauce will be available from Waitrose next month for £2.50 per jar.

Although the brand collaboration is unusual, the finished product is still a well-established pasta sauce – compared to some of Heinz’s previous joint ventures which have been somewhat more unusual.

In 2019, the food company sent social media users wild with the launch of their combined sauces, including ‘mayo-cue’ and ‘mayo-must’ – combinations of mayonnaise with mustard and mayonnaise with barbecue sauce.

After the products were launched, people took to Twitter to express their uncertainty over the new sauces.

One person said: ‘First Mayochup, now Mayocue and Mayomust. I shudder to think what the fourth horseman might be.’
