I left Ireland to move to Australia – now I make a month’s wage in just one week and have a holiday booked every fortnight

One sharp young woman has shared how she takes home a hefty £6,000 salary a month and also holidays fortnightly.

Clio, from Ireland, made the 9,000 mile journey all the way down under, leaving her old healthcare job behind in the pursuit of a new career.

The young woman has been sharing on TikTok the upsides of her new FIFO role in Australia and how you can bag a similar gig.

Clio currently holds a utility position on an Australian mining site on a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) basis.

She explained that her role entails cleaning, helping around the kitchen and doing laundry, and claimed that she takes home her monthly wage as a healthcare worker in only one week in the new position.

One week as a utility worker sees Clio landing anywhere between £1,200 to £1,570, for seven days of work.

The woman works everyday for two weeks due to the nature of the FIFO role, which means she gets to relax for a whole week afterwards.

Clio has used her spare time wisely, jetting off across South-East Asia and Australia every fortnight.

Many of her followers were keen to know how she bagged the dream role, but the utility worker admitted that it took a few attempts.

She advised those wanting to follow her path to contact the relevant agencies in the region[s] they want to work in, and to tailor their CVs.

‘Make sure you say you have experience within whatever post you are trying to apply for, so if it is utilities say you have housekeeping experience or cleaning experience.’

She added: ‘And if they don’t reply once, just keep going, going and going with it.’

Clio also gave tips on how to make your application stand out among the sea of applicants.

‘If you are coming over and you are serious about getting into it, get your white card and Australian driver’s licence because they tend to look more at applicants with that,’ she recommended.

‘[But] I know a lot of people who are over here as well and don’t have a driver’s licence, can’t drive and work as utilities as well.’

A white card, also known as a general construction induction card, is a requirement for individuals who want to work in construction in Australia.

Those required to have a white card include, supervisors, surveyors, labourers, tradespeople and site managers.

An increasing number of people are seeking FIFO positions in Australia, due to the attractively high paychecks they offer, The Sun reported.

FIFO workers have their accommodation, flights and food paid for by their employers, meaning no extra bills.

The reality of living rent-free and only working for half a year is a factor of why many staff will look past the physically gruelling and long hours that comes with the role.
