I lost 130lbs after eating for comfort – here’s how I did it

A morbidly obese woman who once tipped the scale at 256lbs has revealed how she shed a jaw-dropping 130lbs – after piling on weight when she sought comfort in food to overcome a devastating miscarriage.

Amanda Bucci began struggling with her weight in her childhood days, however, after losing 80lbs in her early 20s, she thought she had it under control. But, when she got married at the age of 24, she began to indulge in high-carb foods for comfort.

After losing her unborn baby mid-pregnancy, the Rhode Island native turned to food to cope with the devastating emotional pain she was experiencing, packing on 60lbs in just six months.

Now, the mom-of-two has revealed how she lost over 100lbs by transforming her eating habits and her lifestyle for the benefit of both her and her family.

Amanda explained that she and her and husband both have a rare blood disorder that causes her pregnancies to be ‘high risk.’

She explained: ‘My husband and I both have a rare blood disorder called beta thalassemia, and our first pregnancy was “high risk.”‘

Despite the odds, Amanda fell pregnant and birthed a heathy baby girl.

After their first pregnancy, the lovebirds decided to try for another baby in hopes of the same outcome.

She explained: ‘After having our daughter Annabelle and finding out she was healthy, we entered our second pregnancy with high hopes for a similar outcome.’

However, the second baby was diagnosed with beta thalassemia and the couple had to make the difficult choice to terminate.

‘Sadly, we decided to terminate after the beta thalassemia was diagnosed.

‘We could have gone the full term, but the disease causes the need for constant blood transfusions, bone malformations, organ failure and shortened life expectancies,’ Amanda added.

Amanda felt trapped after the traumatic event, and she turned to food as an emotional crutch.

She explained: ‘I turned to food as an emotional crutch – and my weight spiraled out of control.

‘I packed on 60lbs in six months, leaving me even more depressed and deeply self-conscious.’

In 2018, Amanda gave birth to their second child Vivienne, and decided that enough was enough.

She began implementing small lifestyle changes, such as walking and eating healthier.

She started to workout regularly and lost a whopping 130lbs.

Amanda explained: ‘After giving birth to my daughter, I experienced a powerful motivation to make positive changes in my life.

‘One of the most important changes I made was to focus on losing weight and improving my health, not only for myself but also for the benefit of my family,’ she said.

Amanda said her weight loss journey started with ‘baby steps’ and progressed to 65 minutes of cardio seven times a week and five days a week of heavy weight training, combined with a low-carb diet.

Now, she frequently shares her workout routines and progress photos on her social media page.

‘Working out became a part of my daily routine. I started to look forward to it every day, and it made me feel good.

‘What started as a way to lose weight turned into a lifestyle of being healthy and strong,’ she explained.

After losing weight and improving her health, Amanda has a new sense of joy.

She was able to be more involved with her kids lives and became a better parent.

Amanda noted: ‘This newfound determination allowed me to become a more engaged and active parent, able to fully participate in the joys and challenges of being a mom.

‘As I shed excess pounds and gained confidence in my physical abilities, I found that I could better keep up with my kids and be the best parent I could be.’

Following her weight loss, Amanda was left with excess skin on her lower stomach. She decided to have it removed with an abdominoplasty.

‘I knew abdominoplasty was a major surgery that involved risks and potential complications but thought if I had the right plastic surgeon, the operations would be successful.

‘Unfortunately, in my case, there were a lot of complications due to the anesthesia, and I spent 10 days in hospital,’ Amanda admitted.

However, the recovery process was a struggle for Amanda.

After finally getting over the uphill battle that was the recovery process, Amanda felt overjoyed.

She explained: ‘It was a tough recovery. Right after the surgery was done, I felt a lot of regret, but now that I’m physically healthy again, I’m glad I did something for myself. I feel confident in the skin I’m in. I feel 100 per cent like myself.’
