The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department says that they took 36-year-old Todd Sheldon in custody after the latest attempt that occurred this week

Colorado authorities arrested a man who allegedly attempted to break into three different vehicles during the last few weeks, according to a Friday release.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department says that they took 36-year-old Todd Sheldon in custody after the latest attempt that occurred this week.

They first interacted with the repeat offender last week, after receiving reports that a man was attempting to break into a car in south Jefferson County. The homeowner called the officers after catching the suspect.

By the time deputies arrived, the man had fled the scene but they later found him down the street. He was trying to break into another vehicle at the time, the sheriff’s department said in the release.

Deputies noticed that the suspect was actively trying to break into the vehicle and when they approached him, Sheldon allegedly said: ‘I can’t. I’m trying to steal this truck.’

Sheldon was taken into custody but later bonded out, which led to his eventual arrest this week.

When deputies were called to the scene after receiving calls of a man trying to break into a vehicle, they were shocked to discover that the man was Sheldon.

Upon apprehending the man, Sheldon is said to have told the deputies: ‘I really suck at this.’

The father is currently being held in the Jefferson County jail on a plethora of charges, which include: aggravated motor vehicle theft, criminal trespassing and menacing deadly weapon displayed.

‘They say perseverance is a good thing, but that’s not always true,’ the sheriff’s department declared.

They continued: ‘We share this story in part because of its uniqueness, but also to remind folks to lock their cars and call us to report suspicious activity.’

Sheldon appears to be a repeat offender, having been arrested in 2013 for fatally shooting his dog.

His next court appearance is scheduled for New Year’s Eve.
