‘I was sitting over the piano crying for hours’: Guy Pearce reveals his devastation after divorce

Guy Pearce has spoken candidly about the turmoil he went through after splitting with his ex-wife Kate Mestitz.

Speaking to The Herald Sun about his new album, The Nomad, on Saturday, Guy said: ‘When I started writing the songs I was literally sitting over the piano crying, crying and crying for hours at night, drinking, playing chords over and over.’

The 50-year-old actor added: ‘I should have called it [the new album] The Catharsis.’

Guy split with his wife of 18 years in 2015.

While recording his new album, though, Guy realised his affection for his first wife wasn’t going to change and he dedicated The Nomad to her.

The couple announced the birth of their baby via Twitter, with Guy posting: ‘A cute little package arrived and told us his name’s Monte Pearce. We think we’re gonna keep him.’

Guy and Kate were childhood sweethearts and married in March 1997.

Although he has since revealed that he split with Kate in January 2015, it was not confirmed until October that year.
