Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed opened up about leaving Hollywood behind in order to live on a farm with their two young children during an interview with E! News on Friday.
The 45-year-old actor and the 35-year-old actress stepped away from their acting careers several years ago and began working on their own farm located just outside of Los Angeles.
The Vampire Diaries star, who recently produced a new environmentally-themed documentary, did, however, express that he still held fond memories from his time in the entertainment industry.
Somerhalder stated: ‘I love what I did for a really long time. I love making films, I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.’
However, the actor then described his new life as a farm manager as ‘our 2.0 version.’

Reed spoke about how she sees their new lifestyle as a way to remain environmentally conscious.
She stated: ‘I started connecting the dots between what you do for the planet and what you do for yourself. It’s an evolution and a lifelong pursuit.’
Somerhalder and his wife began dating in 2014, and they tied the knot the following year.
He was previously linked to his Vampire Diaries costar Nina Dobrev.
Meanwhile, Reed was previously married to Paul McDonald from 2011 until 2015.
Somerhalder and Reed started their family with the birth of their daughter Bodhi, six, in July of 2017.
The couple then welcomed a baby boy, whose name has not been publicly revealed, in June of last year.
Somerhalder largely stepped away from his acting career in 2019 in order to focus on raising his children and managing his farm, and Reed followed suit.
The V Wars actor recently spoke to E! News and opened up about his new lifestyle, which he described as ‘a lot of work.’

However, Somerhalder said he thoroughly enjoys caring for the various animals that live on his family’s property.
‘It’s unbelievable when you see these amazing creature life forms and how they all live on the farm together is really special,’ he said.
The performer added that he was also enthusiastic about being seen as more than just another pretty Hollywood face through his work on his farm.
The actor told the media outlet that he was ‘building my entire life and world to do that exact thing.’
