Former Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe recently hinted at wedding plans with his partner Ryan Channing.
But before the couple walk down the aisle, they’ve decided to take another step forward in their relationship: adopting a dog together.
Sydney-based pet rehoming business Room For Pets shared a Facebook photo on Friday of Ian and Ryan looking excited while holding their cavoodle puppy.

‘Two fantastic blokes, taking home a wonderful pet,’ the photo was captioned. ‘Well done Ian Thorpe and Ryan Channing. I’m sure the little girl will be spoiled rotten.’
The puppy love didn’t end there, with Ian sharing a photo of the dog – which the couple named Kaia – to his Instagram on Saturday.
‘Waking up to your new puppy on the weekend. Heaven,’ the retired athlete captioned a sweet snap of Kaia.

Ian’s fans soon flooded the photo with positive comments, including: ‘Oh what a stunning little puppy! Totally gorgeous’ and ‘The most adorable little darling’.
Ryan also couldn’t resist showing off their new addition to the family, sharing another cute photo with the caption: ‘Hi. I’m Kaia.’
Before the result of Australia’s same-sex marriage postal survey in November, Ian hinted that the couple were looking to tie the knot.

Speaking to Woman’s Day, Ian confessed that marriage was on the horizon.
‘After Christmas, as long as it goes through (legislation), ask me again then,’ the 35-year-old said.
This is Ian’s first public relationship since he came out as gay during an interview with Sir Michael Parkinson in July 2014.
