An iconic band have revealed that they turned down representing Britain at Eurovision before organisers asked McFly.

Busted, made up of Matt Willis, James Bourne and Charlie Simpson were asked to take part in the competition ‘a few years ago.’

Speaking on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on Friday, Matt, 42, recalled turning down the offer.

He explained: ‘As per usual Busted were asked first and we said no so they went to McFly.

‘But they asked us a couple of years ago they said “would you like to write a song and perform it on Eurovision?”‘

He was joined on the show by McFly’s Tom Fletcher who said while he ‘would have loved to have done it,’ the time wasn’t right.

Elsewhere, the competition is set to pay homage to Bridgerton when UK act Remember Monday take to the stage.

The country music band, comprising of Charlotte Steele, Holly-Anne Hull and Lauren Byrne, will be the first girl group to represent the country in over 25 years.

The trio will take to the stage at the 69th contest which will take place on May 17 with their song, What The Hell Just Happened? as they battle for Eurovision glory.

Describing their performance, they told The Mirror: ‘As the first chorus hits, we pull out and the girls progress down the catwalk taking us back to the chaos of the previous evening.’

A blogger who watched the rehearsal added: ‘On the main stage is a giant chandelier that has crashed down to Earth.

‘It’s very much the Bridgerton-meets-Moulin Rouge corseted dress vibe with lots of flounces and sparkles.’

First look snaps show the group dressed up in a colourful array of costumes, donning pastel yellow, blue and pink.

Lauren looked incredible in glittering blue flared trousers with a corset style long-sleeved top that flowed out into a mesh mini skirt.

The other members donned matching corset’s but in yellow and pink, with Charlotte adding knee-high heeled boots and Holly-Anne opting for chunky stilettos.

The band got stuck in as they belted out the tune with blue strobe lighting shining across the stage.

The staging also seemed to include a giant chandelier with large candles, which was slightly hidden out of the pictures.

In their caption, Eurovision wrote: ‘You won’t BELIEVE what just happened here. United Kingdom / Remember Monday – What The Hell Just Happened?’
