Iconic soap star suffers career blow as BBC 2 axe six-part comedy drama after just ONE series following extremely low ratings

BBC Two has pulled the plug on a comedy show which featured a huge soap star after ratings plummeted. 

Henpocalypse!, a show that starred Danny Dyer in a sensational cameo role, has been canned after just one series. 

The show saw a group of women on a hen do when an apocalyptic pandemic strikes.

Despite nearly a million viewers tuning into the 10pm show when it launched last year, the audience failed to stick. 

A source told The Sun: ‘It just didn’t get the audience figures to justify it returning.’

The six parter saw Danny in a string of dream sequences – which included dressed up as a sexy knight. 

Creator Caroline Moran revealed that she had written Danny into her script before he even knew the project existed.

She said: ‘There’s only one Danny Dyer. He’s fantastic.

‘He was everything and more than I could’ve hoped for.

‘I emailed him, begging, going, ‘You’re amazing, you’re a national treasure – what do you say?’ He was up for it.’ 

It comes after Danny said it is a ‘f***ing disgrace’ that working class folk don’t get the same chances to star on stage and screen as ‘posh’ actors.

The TV star who is best known for playing pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders, said ‘kids from council estates’ should be prioritised now the Labour Party is in power. 

The married dad-of-three, who also has three grandkids, is also known for starring in movies Human Traffic and Mean Machine, but also in two of Harold Pinter’s plays in the West End and Broadway.

Each episode was 30 minutes long and was commissioned in 2022 before the first show aired on 15 August 2023

It comes after Danny Dyer has said it is a ‘f***ing disgrace’ that working class folk don’t get the same chances to star on stage and screen as ‘posh’ actors

Last month Danny said there was a ‘massive disconnect’ between the elite and the rest of the country.

He said: ‘The new government must start addressing the lack of working-class people in the arts.

‘It’s vital we give young kids from council estates opportunities to make something of their lives.

‘Never has there been more of a disconnect between the elite and everyone else.

‘It’s a f***ing disgrace.’

It’s not the first time Danny has been outspoken about his political views.

In 2018 he called David Cameron a ‘tw*t’ over Brexit, saying he was off in France with his ‘trotters up’ after quitting as Prime Minister.
