I’d nominate a Supreme Court justice if there’s a vacancy before the election says Donald Trump as he claims that a Joe Biden victory will mean ‘you’ll have to learn Chinese’

  • President Donald Trump said Tuesday he would ‘move quickly’ if there is another Supreme Court vacancy
  • ‘Why not?’
  • Claims Democrats ‘would if they were in this position’
  • President Obama nominated Merrick Garland for a Supreme Court seat in March 2016 but the judge never got a hearing
  • Current Senate rules would not allow a Democratic filibuster

President Donald Trump said in an interview Tuesday he would ‘absolutely’ nominate a new Supreme Court Justice should a vacancy occur during his final 162 days in office.

‘You mean if something happened like now?’ Trump asked when radio host Hugh Hewitt asked him if he would nominate a justice, an issue Trump is already seeking to elevate in the 2020 campaign.

‘Absolutely, I’d do it. Sure,’ Trump says.

The topic is more than academic, with multiple aging justices on the court, including 87-year old Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was recently released from the hospital after undergoing cancer treatments.

‘I would move quickly. Why not? I mean, they would. The Democrats would if they were in this position,’ Trump told Hewett.

That was not an opportunity that Democrats got back in 2016. President Barack Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland on March 6, 2016, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell successfully blocked the nomination, which never got even a Judiciary Committee hearing.

McConnell said he would call up the nomination because the vacancy, created by the death of Justice Anthony Scalia, came during an election year.

Trump also said China will ‘own’ the United States if the U.S. if he loses the election.

‘And China will own, just like when his son walked out with $1.5 billion dollars from China to manage, where he’ll make millions of dollars a year,’ Trump said, training fire on Biden’s surviving son, Hunter.

‘Look, China will own the United States if this election is lost by Donald Trump. If I don’t win the election, China will own the United States. You’re going to have to learn to speak Chinese, you want to know the truth,’ he said.

Trump also said if Biden wins ‘you’re going to have a radical left’ and ‘you’ll have every city looking like Portland.’

‘You will have the stock market crash the equivalent of what we had in 1929,’ said Trump.

Stocks tanked in February and March amid the coronavirus outbreak, but have gradually ticked up toward their pre-virus levels.
