Idaho murder victims Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were found by his best friend

Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were found dead by his best friend, who checked for their pulse before calling 911 from a surviving roommate’s cell phone eight hours later.

The unidentified friend had gone over to the Moscow, Idaho, home on the morning of November 13, hours after Chapin and Kernodle, both 20, Maddie Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 20, were slain in their sleep by suspected killer Bryan Kohberger.

Sources told News Nation Chapin’s best friend found the two bodies and took their pulse before shouting at roommate Dylan Mortensen, 21, and others to call 911 around 11.58am.

The call was made from Mortensen’s phone but new details revealed it was the best friend that talked to police.

Mortensen came face to face with suspected quadruple killer Kohberger, 28, shortly after the murders as questions arise on why she didn’t call 911 earlier.

Mortensen allegedly believed the sounds of four of her housemates being brutally murdered were sounds from college partyers in her house.

She reportedly called out to her friends and roommates during the early morning hours of November 13 to quiet down.

‘Calm down, you’re being loud!’ she reportedly yelled around 4am, in addition to: ‘I’m trying to sleep!’

The college student then closed and locked her door, according to one report in the New York Post.

After hearing some more loud noises that night, Mortensen opened her door again and saw accused murdered Kohberger but believed him to be a partygoer.

The alleged claims answer questions from Chapin’s sister-in-law that questioned why Mortensen, who was on the property along with Bethany Funke, didn’t call the police after seeing the suspect leave the house.

His sister-in-law has since revealed that Mortensen called all of the roommates after she heard ‘screaming and crying’ coming from their rooms.

Many are questioning why it took her so long to raise the alarm, after hearing 'crying' and coming face to face with the killer. Pictured (L-R) Dylan Mortensen, Xana Kernodle, Bethany Funke, Kaylee Goncalves and Maddie Mogen

Posting in a thread on Reddit, the sister-in-law said: ‘D supposedly called all the girls in the house after the crying and screaming stopped and no one answered – and she still didn’t call the police.

‘She needs to explain herself and her actions that night.’

When questioned about who called police, she added: ‘911 caller was the friend who went in because D called him to come over because she was scared from what she heard in the night.

‘He went to Xana and Ethan’s room first, then called 911. Why D or B didn’t call the police once is the question.’

Mortensen told police that she heard several scuffles throughout the night and opened her door where she saw a suspect dressed in all black with a mask covering his face and heard one of her housemates say: ‘There’s someone here.’

She also heard the suspect say: ‘It’s ok, I’m here to help you’ as he wandered the house committing the atrocity.

Police confirmed that a 911 call was made from the phone of one of the surviving roommates at 11.58am who requested help for an unconscious person – though it has not been confirmed who spoke to police.

some argued Mortensen didn’t call 911 right away because she may have been ‘frozen’ by fear.

Goncalves and Mogen were killed first, and after Chapin and Kernodle were killed on the second floor of the house.

Chapin was murdered in the doorway of Kernodle’s room. Kernodle apparently attempted to fight the killer by repeatedly grabbing the knife from suspect Kohberger.

She had deep cuts on her fingers. Chapin apparently was slashed in the neck.

Kohberger, who studies criminology at WSU, was charged with the murders in December after a DNA found on a knife sheath matched his.
