Idiot in the outfield! Well refreshed Yankees fan jumps out of the stands

  • Fan sprinted onto grass with a beer in hand and did best to dodge stadium workers as crowd cheered
  • But by the time the field invader reach third base it was all too much and he was tacked to the ground
  • Cop then cuffed the fan and led him back into the stands – presumably to hear he’d just received a ban

A well refreshed New York Yankees fan jumped out of the stands and invaded the outfield before being tackled by security on Tuesday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

The supporter, who was wearing a home team jersey, sprinted onto the grass with a beer in hand and did his best to dodge stadium workers as the crowd cheered the unfolding spectacle.

But by the time the field invader reach third base it was all too much and he was tacked to the ground – along with the beer he had been holding.

A police officer then cuffed the fan and led him back into the stands – presumably to hear the news that he’d just received a hefty ban.

The game between the Yankees and Twins was into the seventh inning when the bizarre spectacle unraveled. The home side went onto win 8-3 after bagging four homers, two from Gary Sanchez.

The Athletic NYC writer Marc Carig tweeted: ‘I give that dumbass who ran onto the field some credit. Didn’t lose beer until security clobbered him around shortstop. Only then was the beer fumbled away.’

David Adler wrote: ‘A fan ran onto the field at Yankee Stadium and got laid out by a security guy, but by far the best part was two other security guys running smack into each other and both falling down

Mike Mazzeo said: ‘Giancarlo Stanton makes contact. Then a couple security guards make contact with a fan who ran on the field. #Yankees.’

And Yung Social Anxiety added: ‘All my years of being a Yankees fan I’ve never seen anyone storm the field in Yankee stadium.’
