‘I’ll come to the airport and drag you back!’: Roma fans BEG Edin Dzeko not to go to Inter Milan

‘I’ll come to the airport and drag you back here!’: Roma fans BEG Edin Dzeko not to go to Inter Milan as he turns up for training, with the experienced striker set to join their rivals to replace Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku

  • Lukaku is set to join the Blues in a whopping £98million deal from Inter Milan
  • Simone Inzaghi’s side want to replace the Belgian with Bosnian forward Dzeko
  • But Roma fans made a desperate plea to Dzeko, beseeching him to stay at Roma

Desperate Roma fans have begged Edin Dzeko not to leave for Inter Milan, with Inter keen on the striker to replace Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku.

Veteran forward Dzeko has been a revelation at the Italian side since signing from Manchester City in October 2015, scoring 119 goals in 260 appearances in all competitions, a rate not far off one every two games.

And a social media post from Italian journalist Daniele Mari appears to show a Roma fan urging him to stay by shouting at him as he leaves his car at Roma’s Trigoria training ground after returning from a holiday in Croatia.

The tweet, captioned ‘Attempts at persuasion in Trigoria,’ shows Dzeko climbing out of a black car, as the fan yells ‘Edin!’ to grab his attention.

As he turns around, waving a hand to acknowledge them, the supporter shouts: ‘Sign a new contract with Roma! Don’t go to Inter! I’ll come and get you at the airport and drag you back here!’, to which the 35-year-old does not appear to respond.

Dzeko is now back in training following the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal, with reports suggesting a deal to take him to Inter for around £1.6million has already been agreed.

Inter are set to lose their top striker Lukaku to his former club Chelsea in a whopping £98million transfer, to help ease their financial woes, with the small price tag for Dzeko a massive advantage for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

But Roma letting Dzeko leave is dependent on them signing a striker - Jose Mourinho's are keen on Chelsea's Tammy Abraham, although he reportedly would prefer a move to Arsenal

However, Roma are understood not to want to let him go before they confirm a replacement – with Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham on their shortlist.

Abraham, 23, who will be pushed down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge with the signing of Lukaku, is thought to want to stay in London, with interest from Arsenal more appealing despite former Blues boss Jose Mourinho managing Roma.

The English forward also wants around £80,000-a-week wages, with Roma’s current offer reportedly standing at around £65,000-a-week.

Roma get their Serie A campaign underway on Sunday 22 August against Fiorentina, but Bosnia-Herzegovina captain, record appearance maker and goalscorer Dzeko may be gone by then.
