OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Jack Yalowitz scored from second base on Ben Troike’s deep drive to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Illinois posted a 5-4 walk-off win over Indiana in a Big Ten Tournament elimination game Friday night.
Yalowitz singled leading off against Matt Lloyd (4-2), moved over on a sacrifice and came home when Troike’s long fly for a double glanced off center fielder Logan Kaletha’s glove.
The Illini (33-19) play second-seeded Purdue on Saturday.
Illinois led 4-3 in the fifth when Bren Spillane, the conference player of the year, drove a 3-2 pitch out to left center for his 23rd homer of the season. Kaletha tied it 4-all with a homer in the seventh.
Joey Gerber (1-1) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to earn the win.
It was the fifth one-run game in the tournament and fourth that was won in walk-off fashion.
