I’m 19 and I live full-time in my car – the only place I can shower is the gym, but I love my life

A teenager has revealed she lives in her car full-time out of choice – because of the ‘freedom’ it gives her travel.

Dayra Reynoso, 19, shared a clip on TikTok detailing her unusual lifestyle, from the moment she wakes up in her small car in North Carolina to heading to the gym for showers.

The woman, who runs a secondhand clothing brand on Instagram, said she loves living in her vehicle due to the ‘freedom’ it gives her, writing: ‘The world is my oyster’.

The clip details her outdoorsy lifestyle, from cooking her meals on a camping stove to performing her morning yoga routine in idyllic locations.

Ms Reynoso also shared how she takes advantage of her gym membership for showers, brushing her teeth and replenishing her supply of fresh water.

‘I am so grateful for 24/7 gyms,’ she said. ‘You have a place to shower, work out, do my business.

‘I’ve also done my dishes there but you can also do your dishes by refilling your water jug at the gym.’

However, it isn’t all plain sailing, with the clip capturing her getting a parking ticket.

In another TikTok, the teenager explained why she lives the way she does.

‘I’m living in my car because I want to,’ Ms Reynoso said. ‘Why not? Anyone can live in their car for whatever reason. You have so much freedom.’

She added that she was inspired to live in her car after watching others do the same: ‘I was like I can do that, why can’t I do that?’

Ms Reynoso said the biggest issue with her lifestyle is not being able to use the toilet whenever she likes. ‘You have to plan it out,’ she said.

One user found it reassuring that other people live this way, saying: ‘Glad to know I’m not the only one living in my car.’

Another said: ‘I lived in my car when I was 19. I wish I had enjoyed it more – the freedom. I was just so scared.

‘I applaud you for doing this so fearlessly.’
