I’m A Celeb South Africa: Helen Flanagan overcomes her fears after VERY shaky start

Helen Flanagan overcame her fear of heights while taking on the first challenge during I’m A Celebrity… South Africa.

The show, which launched on ITV on Monday night, showed an overwhelmed Helen, 32, struggling to cope as she watched Fatima Whitbread take on the giant ball challenge, knowing that she was also going to have to do it herself.

The former Coronation Street star, who first took part in 2012, ‘felt sick’ and crouched on the floor as she watched Fatima fall from one of the balls.

She was safe and well thanks to her safety harness but it wasn’t easy seeing Fatima struggling to make her way across the obstacle course.

The challenge was branded the hardest one yet, with the trio only managing to get one star out of the three available.

Someone penned: ‘I’m A Celeb in particular well done to Helen Flanagan… she did really well even if she failed she gave it a good go!’

Helen claimed she won’t chicken out of Bushtucker Trials in I’m A Celebrity South Africa after her 2012 stint in the jungle.

The actress was known for opting out of challenges when she first appeared on the ITV series.

Ahead of her return, she said: ‘The public know me best for being an absolute wimp in the trials. I was useless – really rubbish – but hopefully I’m going to be a lot better this time.’

She added: ‘Looking back now I can see how I was a bit of a drama queen back in 2012.

‘I am wiser now. I’m so determined to make my girls proud as well. I won’t be shouting I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’

It comes after Helen admitted that she’d ‘rather give birth’ than to relive one of the bushtucker trials from her recent I’m A Celebrity stint.

The former Coronation Street star, 32, originally entered the Australian jungle in 2012, but she returned for a second go last year for the spin-off series in South Africa.

And recalling her time in the jungle during an appearance on Friday’s Loose Women, Helen moaned that it’s ‘hell in there’ and ‘really hard’, before sharing that she considered for two months before agreeing to do the show.

Detailing her jungle experience, she told the panel: ‘Every time the jungle is on every year, I get the memes from my friends.

‘I thought about it for a good two months before doing it. That show is really hard, you watch at home you think, “oh I could do that!”

‘You have to be a certain kind of person, it is hell in there, it’s horrendous.’

Opening up about the bushtucker trials and the conditions of the camp, she went on: ‘The trials are very, very difficult. You feel dirty, you can’t have a shower.

Preparation: Ahead of making her way to the jungle, Helen and her fellow TV stars had to spend a period alone in isolation before joining everyone else, though they still had access to their phones

‘I feel as well that sometimes it’s intense being filmed 24/7.

‘I did one trial and I did think, “I’d rather give birth right now!” I’m naturally a wimp, I’m scared of heights, spiders, snakes.’

The actress’ time in the jungle meant that she was away from her three children whom she shares with ex-fiancé Scott Sinclair, but credits him and their mothers for taking care of the kids.

She explained: ‘I was away from the kids for a month. Scott, my mum, his mum, looked after the girls. Scott’s mum was amazing.’
