But on Sunday it was confirmed that Bernard Tomic has qualified for an equally competitive and rigorous challenge- the new season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The 25-year-old tennis player, currently ranked world number 143, claims his decision to star on the series is not motivated by money, saying he instead sees it as an attempt to rehabilitate his tarnished image.

Speaking with The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, Bernard stated: ‘People know me as this tennis player that is crazy and has done this or that, or has problems.’

‘Hopefully I get the chance to change their image about me on this show and that is one of the reasons I’m doing it’.

For his part on the program, the Gold Coast based star has already flown to the South African jungle ahead of Sunday night’s live premiere.

In his interview with The Telegraph, the tennis ace also made sure to state that he wasn’t interested in the pay packet he would receive from Channel Ten.

‘It is not for the money. I am doing this because it is something I always wanted to do in my life,’ he enthused.

His comments come just weeks after the The Herald Sun reported the former world No. 17 had allegedly been ‘bragging’ about being cast for a seven-figure sum.

‘I am washed up, done. I am old news… forgotten about,’ the 33-year-old told the Courier-Mail.

But despite his bread-and-butter being based in Melbourne, the trip to South Africa is something Josh is looking forward to.

‘It is going to really test me and put me outside my comfort zone,’ he said.

‘People talk about sports men being tough but there is going to be plenty of things on here that will be foreign to me.

‘Being put in a camp with people you don’t know and having to forge new relationships and rely on one another is a really exciting challenge and one I am looking forward to.’

He admitted one of his biggest, and strangest phobias, is of tomatoes.

Actor Kerry Armstrong, 59

Veteran actor Kerry Armstrong is hoping to shed her professional image and be ‘completely irresponsible’ while living in the South African jungle.

The 59-year-old spoke with The Sun-Herald on Sunday about her reality show appearance being the ‘third act’ in her accomplished career.

The star of acclaimed films like Lantana and Oyster Farmer explained she opted to do the show because her three sons have left her an ’empty-nester’ at home.

‘This feels like a third act. I can do this gracefully, or I can do it in the wildest way that I can,’ she offered.

The Melbourne-thespian shot down any hints she might become the ‘mum’ of the camp.

‘I just want to be completely irresponsible in there. Ever since my boys left, I feel I’m allowed to be more mischievous and cheeky,’ she added.

Kerry was a surprise addition to the I’m A Celebrity cast, with her acting highlights including Shakespeare performances and roles in The Wrong Girl and Sea Change.

‘For a girl who wanted to be Katharine Hepburn, this is certainly a turn in the wrong direction,’ she joked.
