I’m A Celebrity’s James Haskell shows off jungle weight loss

James Haskell tucked into a pizza and beer as he celebrated being out of the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.

The rugby star, 34, displayed the results of his weight loss after taking part in the show for the last two and a half weeks as he shared a shirtless snap on Instagram.

James showed off his washboard abs in the photo as he relished enjoying some home comforts after living off little more than rice and beans in the jungle.

The sports star was the fourth celebrity sent packing from the show and thanked viewers for their support and said he ‘loved every second’ of the experience.

Alongside the snap, he wrote: ‘Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me! Sadly I didn’t make the cut but I loved every second of my @imacelebtrity experience!

‘The most important thing to me is the opinion and respect of my fellow camp mates, with whom I have lived for the last 17 days. I was truly touched and humbled by their reactions this morning in camp.

‘Also cannot thank @andrewismaxwell, @adeleroberts and @cliffparisi enough for their amazingly kind and generous words to me today. Here’s to another slice [of pizza] and [beer], and on to the next adventure.’

Although it is not known exactly how much weight James has lost, this year’s celebrities have shed more than 5st between them on their restricted diet of just 700 calories per day.

Before he entered the jungle, James, who eats 4,000 calories a day to keep his frame in tact, told The Sun he was expecting to lose about 10kgs.

He said: ‘I’m about 121kg going in. I think I’ll probably lose 10kg, maybe a bit more and come out 109 maybe. It will be pretty horrific in terms of that loss.’

James made an appearance on This Morning on Wednesday where he was joined by his wife Chloe Madeley.

Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, James admitted he didn’t hold back on chowing down on some of his favourite foods and said he is ‘still hungry’.

He said: ‘I came out and everyone said don’t go too mad. I went and smashed a full English, muffin and granola and then Chloe filled my hat with biscuits for the journey back.

‘I’ve seen had two pizzas and a cheese board and some coronas… I’m still hungry!’

James also spoke about being branded as bossy by some viewers, saying that his past experience in sports has taught him that sometimes ‘you just need to make a decision.’

‘I think when you’re in the jungle you have 12 people with different standards, I went in with one idea and that was to have fun and challenge myself.

‘I didn’t know of the competitive element, what I didn’t want to do was take a leader role, I wanted an equal say.

‘I’ve been around team sport my whole life and sometimes you can’t debate you just need to make a decision.

‘I unintentionally ended up taking on a leader role, it was absolutely nothing we have difference of opinion every day.’

James also admitted he had never watched I’m A Celebrity before and had ‘never thought of reality TV’.

He said: ‘I never watched the show, I knew it had 13, 14 million viewers and seen snippets.

‘I’d never thought of reality TV and before I left I was being driven to a job and I watched some bush tucker trials and within five minutes I saw someone eating a slug and spider.

‘Within minutes of watching I was gagging and I rang Chloe and said what have you agreed to let me do!’

Chloe added: ‘He’s not great with spiders at home, so I thought it would be a problem but watching it become clear he’s good at getting on with it.’

Speaking about her husband getting ‘hangry’ in the jungle, she said: ‘I noticed by day five he was starting to get really hungry. Since he’s come out I’ve maybe over fed him.’

James adheres to a strict training regime in order to keep himself in shape and previously told Check Me Owt that a body transformation ‘requires sacrifice’.

‘Your dedication, your focus and how much hard work you want to put into things are all within your control,’ he said.

‘It’s also about making sure you have a plan, sticking to it and executing it. To achieve anything from body transformation to excelling at a sport, it requires sacrifice.

‘It’s not fun, it’s not for everyone. It’s about falling down and getting back up again. These are all important things that help you achieve whatever your goal is.’

The rugby pro got emotional when he was announced as the latest campmate to leave the show.

He said in his eviction chat: ‘You know what, I got quite emotional. Jacqueline started crying, Ian had tears in his eyes, and I thought, “there’s no way I’m going to well up here”, and I did. I discovered a deep dark set of emotions.’

James lasted 18 days in the jungle, and followed Adele Roberts, Andrew Maxwell, and Cliff Parisi, who were all booted from the series previously.

Despite not winning the show, James still achieved what he set out to do on the series, which was to challenge himself.

He said: ‘I’ve been playing rugby for the last 18 and a half years, and for once I had a break and I wanted to reset my life, and this was the perfect kind of platform to do it.

‘I’ve learned a lot about myself in terms of challenges and hardships, I can actually deal with quite well. Starving me, I don’t think was a good experience, but I found also I quite enjoyed helping other people.

‘That was my biggest kind of thing that I really enjoyed.’

Although James formed close friendships with the likes of football star Ian Wright whilst in the jungle, he would like to see actress Jacqueline Jossa crowned Queen of the Jungle during the final on Sunday.

When asked who he’d like to see win, he said: ‘I think Jacqueline. I think she came in here wanting to do this for herself, and I think she wanted to prove people wrong, and I think she’s had a bit of a hard time.’

James also addressed how the lack lack of food in the camp started to have an impact on him.

Fans of the show appeared to be thrilled that James – who has been accused of being ‘arrogant’ and ‘too controlling’ – had been booted out, taking to Twitter to express their opinions.

As he was released James was reunited with his wife, Chloe Madeley, who ran to greet him on the bridge.

Chloe revealed her Royal pals Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall think her husband James was ‘absolutely hilarious’ on I’m A Celebrity on Monday’s edition of Lorraine.

The TV personality, 32, told how Zara messages her all the time to tell her how great James was doing, with rugby stars James and Mike being longtime friends.

Chloe said: ‘They think the whole thing’s absolutely hilarious. Z’s been amazing, she messages me the whole time to check up on me. She’s been great.

‘And Tins just thinks the whole thing is a great opportunity to make James suffer and is voting for him to do every Bushtucker Trial that he possibly can.

‘They all just find it hilarious. They don’t take it seriously at all. They’ve been in really high pressured situations their whole careers… so when they watch it they really do just see it as hilarious entertainment and they’re really enjoying it.’

Chloe also spoke about James’ time in the jungle and said he is now in ‘a good place’ after previously bickering with some of his fellow campmates.

She said: ‘He had a ‘hangry’ episode. But from what I’ve seen he seems to have come back up again and he seems to be in a really good place.’

Speaking of jungle evictees Adele Roberts and Andrew Maxwell Chloe added: ‘They’ve told me that he’s doing really well in camp and cheering everybody up and that they absolutely adore him, which makes me feel really good.’

Chloe dismissed claims James has been a bully and said it was only natural to have bad days when you’re sleep deprived.

She said: ‘I think he just had a really grumpy day and I think when you’re sleep deprived and food deprived and you’re surrounded by people you aren’t necessarily friends with on the outside world, if you have a bad day, if you have a moody day you do kind of snap a bit.

‘But I think the ‘b’ word is a little bit intense. I personally watched it and I just wanted to get in there and give him a hug and some food.’

She added: ‘We’re incredibly close and I love him dearly and I’m so, so proud of him. Despite his ‘hangry’ moments, I actually think he’s doing a fantastic job and I’m really proud.’

It comes after Chloe defended the rugby star for his ‘snappiness’ after being involved in several rows on I’m A Celebrity

Taking to Instagram ahead of Sunday night’s show, the fitness guru claimed her other half was being a ‘right old grump’, because he wasn’t getting the calories he needed.

Chloe’s comments came hours before James baffled his campmates by admitting he refused to tell his wife his loved her when they were dating.

Roman Kemp posed the question of when to tell someone you are in love with them, which prompted James to say that Chloe had told him within three months of dating.

Yet the England player refused to say the words himself, confessing: ‘I didn’t say it back to her for a long time because I really wanted to mean it.’

As Roman quipped, ‘I bet that made her feel good,’ Kate then asked James how he reacted after Chloe had declared that she loved him.

James recalled:  ‘I said “l adore you”. Combination of love and adore.

‘Then one day we’d had an all-day drinking thing and she was so much fun and good with the boys that I just turned round and said “you are amazing and I love you” and I meant it and have done ever since.’

Proving her love for her other half was Chloe, as she continued to defend her husband after viewers slammed the former England rugby player for branding the other celebrities ‘a circus of stupidity’ in Saturday night’s episode.

James also declared that he was ‘too intelligent and too switched on’ to discuss what he thought was a ‘simple’ question in the Dingo Dollar Challenge, in which the camp were playing to win a treat.

The rugby player snapped at campmates Andy Whyment and Kate Garraway as they debated the answer, prompting Andrew Maxwell to joke the star was a ‘maniac’.

Chloe, who is the daughter of TV’s Richard and Judy, posted on Instagram: ‘The poor guy is in a right old grump.

‘His basal metabolic rate is around 2,500 calories [and] his total daily energy expenditure is around 4,000 calories so to go down to 800, maybe 1,200… is clearly taking its toll on him.

‘I think people should remember this is a TV show orchestrated to get big reactions out of big characters, and maybe take it a tad less seriously.’
