I’m a mom – and I DON’T want to spend Mother’s Day with my kid

A mom has caused quite the stir online after admitting she would rather spend Mother’s Day alone instead of with her child.

Bailey McPherson, 24, from California, took to TikTok to share her very candid views on the upcoming celebration.

The social media star, who has a daughter, said that she wanted to use Mother’s Day to get her ‘toes done, drink something bubbly and go shopping.’

Other social media users were left fiercely divided in the comments – but what do you think?

McPherson first took to TikTok with a clip that questioned who she should spend her time with on Mother’s Day.

She said: ‘Mother’s Day as an adult is weird because it’s like am I expected to celebrate it with my mother-in-law?

‘Am I expected to celebrate it with my own mother? Because my own mother certainly thinks so, but I am also a mother.

‘So when do I as a mother, who now lives near her mother, when do I celebrate myself?’

The video, which has so far been viewed more than 1.5 million times, received hundreds of comments including one that read: ‘Celebrate together? You can be celebrated at the time same time as the others.’

It prompted Bailey to post a follow-up clip in which she candidly shared her views.

Speaking directly to camera, she said: ‘Celebrate Mother’s Day together? But the thing is I don’t like to spend my alone-time mommy breaks with other people.

‘I definitely don’t like to sit in other people’s houses and watch my kid. I don’t wanna be with my kid on Mother’s Day. I don’t want to go to someone’s house and be a mother, you know.’

She continued: ‘I want to go out and get my toes done, have someone scrub my feet till I get so tickly that I almost kick them in the face.

‘I want to drink something bubbly, even a Shirley Temple, a bottomless Shirley Temple.

‘Some food, maybe some shopping. That’s my idea of Mother’s Day by myself. Whoever wants to tag along, that… I guess my mom could tag along for that, but that’s all I’m settling for. I will not be mothering on Mother’s Day. Goodbye.’

And the revelation that she would rather spend the day alone sparked a fierce debate in the comments.

Another added: ‘This!! I feel like I get judged so hard for wanting it to be my day without them with me!’

And a third said: ‘I’m a mom every damn day. I don’t want to be a mom on Mother’s Day. That’s my day.’

But on the other hand there were those who took a dim view of Bailey’s outlook.

Someone commented: ‘I don’t understand not wanting to be with your kids on Mothers Day. That’s the whole point!’

One said: ‘Uhm wait what?? So mother’s day is not the day you spend time with the persons who made you a mother? I’m confused?’

And another argued: ‘It’s not all about you. It’s about letting your kids spoil you.’
