An Australian psychologist was lost for words after discovering her husband was leaving her for a patient – and she ignored a glaring warning sign for weeks.
The anonymous mental health professional wrote into the Toni and Ryan podcast to share her anguish after her life came crashing down.
‘A patient of mine told me she was sleeping with a married man and the guilt was eating her alive,’ the psychologist said, referring to the first red flag.
‘The patient said the man was going to leave his wife for her, but [she was conflicted].’
While she was in love with her affair partner, she also felt bad about ‘being a homewrecker’.

The psychologist advised the patient the best she could and went home, not giving the confession a second thought.
It was only a few days later that she realised she was directly involved in the affair.
‘Later that week, my husband told me he’s leaving me for a woman he’s been sleeping with,’ the psychologist revealed.
‘My husband was having a fling with my patient and I couldn’t tell either of them – or anyone – because of the confidentiality clauses, but I need to tell someone and I just need to scream,’ she said to Toni and Ryan.
The Melbourne podcasters were shocked by the revelation.
‘What the f**k?’ Toni gasped.

A few believed the patient was aware of her boyfriend’s wife all along.
‘[The other woman] knew it was her and that was her way of relieving the guilt. She told her [boyfriend’s wife] without telling her,’ one guessed.
‘There isn’t a single universe in the multiverse where the patient didn’t know her doctor is her lover’s wife. Shame on her,’ a woman said.
Many couldn’t believe people were willing to date people in relationships.
‘The moment you find out someone has a partner is the moment you cut all contact, surely? If they’ll do it to someone else, they’ll do it to you.’
‘I don’t know what’s more shocking, the whole plot twist or the fact that a married man promised his mistress to leave his wife and he actually did it,’ another added.
