I’m a size 20 and spent £80 on swimwear in Forever 21 – people are loving me in the red bikini

A social media star who spent $100 to try out Forever21’s plus-size swimwear has been left disappointed by some of the brand’s smaller cuts.

Earlier this month, Lauren Sangster, 28, from Los Angeles, explained how she wanted to put the brand’s XL styles to the test on her TikTok account.

The influencer – who boasts 40,000 followers on the platform – tried out four of the fashion brand’s items of swimwear as well as one beach cover-up, which cost $100 [£80] overall.

Introducing the clip, Lauren said: ‘I spent $100 on swimsuits from Forever 21 so let’s try them on!

‘I’m a size 16 [UK 20] and these are all in a size XL, which is the largest size they had in store. So let’s see if they fit!’

Lauren Sangster, 28, from LA, bought several Forever21 pieces of swimwear in a size XL – but was disappointed with how some fitted

To begin with, Lauren tried out a black-and-white striped swimming costume which exposed her midriff.

Although she thought it was ‘really cute’, the body positive influencer said it was a ‘little small’ .

Next, she tested out a red two-piece with a bandeau top and strappy bottoms.

Raving about the fit, Lauren said: ‘Okay this one is really cute. It’s just like a little red bikini, I love this one.’

But again, the influencer felt it was ‘just too small’ and was planning on returning it to store.

For those considering buying it, Lauren said: ‘It does have these adjustable straps at the sides.’

What’s more, the stylish TikToker says she was also impressed that both the top and bottoms had a double-lining to avoid any awkward wardrobe malfunctions.

After this, Lauren put a black swimming costume with a plunging neckline and high-waisted cut – which she labelled a ‘good classic option’.

Finishing off her review, Lauren tried on a hot pink bikini set with high-waisted bottoms.

She said: ‘This one is so cute but again, it’s too small. I need to get my size.

‘I love the coverage in the bottom and the top and then it has this really thick band.

‘Overall, it has really good support. I like this swimsuit – it’s just not my size.’

Despite not finding one swimsuit that fitted her perfectly, Lauren’s followers were full of praise for the red bikini.

Although Lauren wasn't convinced about the fit of any of the XL styles, the plus-size star was told she should keep the red bikini

‘You should keep the red one,’ a fan said. ‘You look beautiful in it!’

Another added: ‘Love the red and black on you.’

A third gushed: ‘Finally!!! I was just about to buy one but after seeing what they look like on, I’m buying two!’

‘Beauty,’ a fourth wrote.

Offering their shopping advice, a fifth said: ‘Have you tried JCPenney? I used to buy my swimsuits there for a bigger bust and I really like the stuff.’
