According to the online star, the French hardly ever eat between breakfast, lunch, and dinner – and munching while you’re on the move is totally frowned upon
According to the online star, who has gained more than 607,000 followers on TikTok and 55,000 on Instagram, the French hardly ever eat between breakfast, lunch, and dinner – and munching while you’re on the move is totally frowned upon.
‘Things that will definitely get you dirty looks in Paris,’ Amanda began in the video, which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times.
‘Not saying you can’t do these things, you can do whatever the hell you want.
‘But if you do these things, you are gonna get dirty looks.
Amanda dished: ‘There’s one thing you can eat while walking – only one thing, a baguette’
‘Number one is eating while walking. The French don’t really snack.
‘There’s one thing you can eat while walking – only one thing, a baguette.
‘That is the only thing that is acceptable to eat while walking. Anything else, it’s just not super common.
‘You do not see people eating on the Metro. They eat at meals, and that’s it.’
Next up on Amanda’s list of things that Americans do that French people are not fond of was talking loudly.
She explained that people from the US often think they are using an ‘inside voice,’ but in reality, they are much louder than they realize.
‘Listen, I love you guys, I am you guys, I’m one of you. But you f**king scream. Americans – you f**king scream,’ she continued.
‘You’re screaming. Your voice that you think is your inside voice, no it’s not. It’s your outside voice.’
In addition, Amanda warned against asking to take your leftovers home from a restaurant if you are ever visiting Paris.
‘Asking for a to-go box at a restaurant, that’s really uncommon and super un-French,’ she told her followers.

The influencer explained that the portion sizes in France are usually perfect for what ‘a normal human would eat in one meal,’ so it’s very uncommon to ‘not finish your meal’
The influencer explained that the portion sizes in France are usually perfect for what ‘a normal human would eat in one meal,’ so it’s very uncommon to ‘not finish your meal.’
‘French people finish their meals, like I said, they don’t snack. If they’re sitting down for a meal, they’re gonna have the whole meal,’ she explained.
‘It’s very uncommon for you to not finish your meal, and then if you do, it’s even more uncommon to ask for a box. You can, I’ve done it, but you might get looks.’
The TikToker said that another thing that French people don’t like is when you dress too casually in public.
She advised against wearing ‘anything comfortable’ like athleisure clothes, sweatpants, or leggings when you go out.
‘If I could live my whole life in sweatpants, I f**king would. But you’re not gonna see it [in Paris],’ she revealed.
‘Athleisure is for the gym or your home. If you leave the house in like leggings or sweatpants or even joggers, you’re gonna get looks, it’s just not how people dress here.’

But on the other end of the spectrum, Amanda said you should be careful about dressing too fancy when you’re exploring Paris
While speaking to the New York Post about the TikTok, Amanda explained that it’s a ‘generalization’ based on her ‘observations’ from living abroad

‘If you’re going out in Paris wearing a short skirt and heels, or just like being overly dolled up, you’re also gonna get some looks,’ she added.
‘For the most part, when we go out on a Friday night, it’s jeans and a top with boots, sneakers, flat shoes, or maybe small heels, but like you are not gonna see the full attire – the full mini skirt, heels, makeup.’
Amanda concluded the video by reminding her followers that they can ‘do whatever they want,’ stating, ‘who cares if you get looks?’

‘The things I mention are from my observations of life in Paris, my personal experiences, and what I’ve heard from French people,’ she said.
‘These are simply observations. Life in France is different from the US in many ways, and these are just some of the quintessential American things that could raise some eyebrows over here in Paris.’
