A wife is furious after her husband immediately stopped doing any cleaning as soon as they tied the knot – and she now wants a divorce.
The couple, who has been dating for four years, never had a problem with cleaning before, with each doing their fair share of chores.
‘Everything changed after marriage and I couldn’t tell you why, suddenly he became a slob… I’m at my wits end,’ the wife wrote on Reddit.
‘I stopped doing all of my housework out of protest a month into our marriage and I now live in complete and utter filth.
‘I’m rarely home due to the mess. I live part time live with my sister at this point and he doesn’t even care, I’ve had multiple breakdowns this month, I’m completely over it.’
The wife explained that it isn’t a simple case of untidiness – but rather wet food in the sink, bugs, takeaway boxes everywhere, garbage not taken out, puddles, crumbs, dirty laundry and stacks of piled dishes.
‘A few hours ago I told him that if he doesn’t clean up tonight then I’m divorcing him tomorrow, he told me that I’m being an a****** and that cleaning is no longer his job,’ she said.
‘I nearly popped a f****** blood vessel – we did not decide on that.’

While her mother-in-law urged her not to throw the marriage away, thousands of people unanimously slammed the husband’s behaviour and told the American woman it was definitely time to leave him.
People couldn’t decide what was worse, the mess itself or the husband’s attitude.
‘The behavior is completely unacceptable. It’s one thing to have different cleaning standards, but it’s another entirely to actively refuse to contribute to a shared living space. The level of filth you’re describing is unsanitary and disrespectful,’ one woman said.
‘The part where he says he doesn’t have to clean now that he’s married is especially bothersome. He truly believes this and will never change,’ another said.
‘He didn’t say it to me and I already wanted to pop him in the jaw,’ one more added.
People were infuriated by the husband’s actions, saying that men who often want a traditional wife who does all the cooking, cleaning and parenting also often expect her to hold down a job as well.
‘They want a traditional housewife/stay at home mother but with the modern wife paycheck,’ one woman said.
‘I come from a culture that is a lot more traditional than American culture and these dudes would have a heart attack if they knew what was expected of them as traditional husbands,’ a man added.
Some thought it wasn’t uncommon for some men to change their habits after marriage.
‘A lot of times people hide who they really are until they get married, and then the mask drops. He fooled you, and I’m sorry that happened,’ a man wrote.
‘My ex husband immediately changed after the marriage, too. I wasted years trying to work through things. Run now if you can,’ one woman advised.
