A shocked couple has captured the impressive moment a kookaburra managed to wolf down a dead rat while sitting on the homeowner’s balcony.
George Trojanowski filmed the bird, nicknamed Scruff, as it devoured the nauseating meal at their rural Kiels Mountain home in the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland.
The video showed the hungry kookaburra perched on the balcony rail holding the dead rat’s head in its mouth.

‘Hello scruff, my goodness,’ Mr Trojanowski exclaimed as the bird sat there with his feast.
Scruff began to chomp away at the lifeless rat as it kept repositioning its beak and fluttering its wings to try and swallow its food.
Mr Trojanowski gasped as he watched the hungry bird manage to fit the rat’s body inside its mouth.

The happy kookaburra seemed unphased as it stared at the couple and showed off its catch while the rat’s legs poked out of its mouth.
‘Unbelievable,’ Mr Trojanowski said in complete shock at what he was witnessing.
While Mr Trojanowski’s partner told the feasting animal: ‘Scruff, no food for you for a week’.
Scruff continued to bite away at the dead rat lifting its beak to chomp and gulp down the rest of the rat’s body, leaving only its tail to stick out of his mouth.

Speaking on the impressive moment he captured, Mr Trojanowski said: ‘We live on a small rural mountain top property and have encouraged many wild birds to adopt our home as a sanctuary and occasional supplementary feeding opportunity.’
Mr Trojanowski said Scruff is one of five kookaburras that regularly visits their property and is ‘definitely the character of the bunch’ as this is not the first time the cheeky bird has brought a meal to show the pair.
‘He’s brought other “kills” for us to admire but this rat was definitely the pièce de résistance.’
Many viewers were stunned by the kookaburra’s ability to swallow the dead rat.
One wrote: ‘Well I guess he didn’t need dinner last night!’
