An Indian woman has died after her hair got caught in the wheels of an amusement park go-kart, tearing her scalp from her head.

The freak accident happened in the northern state of Haryana when Puneet Kaur, 28, was on holiday with her family.

She was rushed to hospital after the incident in Pinjore but was declared dead on arrival.

The accident happened on Wednesday when Puneet Kaur and her husband were on a Valentine’s Day outing.

She was riding as a passenger in the go-kart. Although she had her hair tied into a bun,  the Indian Express reported it suddenly came loose and entangled in one of the rear wheels.

Her distraught husband Amardeep Singh, an agriculturist, told police, ‘My wife and I were enjoying the ride on the go-kart.

‘Suddenly, my wife’s hair got loose and I heard her scream. I raised an alarm and when the kart stopped, her scalp was peeled off. I do not know the quality of the rubber band [she used to tie her hair into a bun] and the helmet given to my wife.’
