Indiana girl dies after being shot in the eye with BB gun

An eight-year-old girl has died after a younger child accidentally shot her in the eye with a BB gun in northeastern Indiana, according to local authorities.

The girl was taken to a hospital in critical condition on Thursday after being wounded at a home in Grabill, 140 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

An obituary for Deborah Kay Schwartz says she died on Friday.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Monday that Deborah died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Her cousin, six, was said to have been the one to shoot the little girl, according to police.

She was taken to the hospital from her 8320 Ricker Road home in Grabill, Indiana.

The shooting is under investigation by authorities in Allen County, including the sheriff’s department, prosecutors and the coroner’s office.

It is being reported as the first homicide in the county as of 2018.
