Influencer reveals the shocking new scam targeting Aussie social media stars to collect their highly personal information

Comedian Ash Williams has urged Aussie influencers to be diligent after he was targeted by an email scam.

Taking to Instagram, the 42-year-old revealed he was asked to be a guest on a US podcast with designer Jennifer Welch.

The media personality said he was contacted by Welch’s alleged manager Stefan, who offered him $2,000USD to appear as a guest on an episode of Jennifer’s podcast via Facebook live.

After agreeing to the offer, Ash was told he will be paid upfront and was booked in for the following week.

Stefan later emailed back asking for a Zoom meeting to be arranged to ensure Ash’s Facebook is set for the live event.

Ash noted that after logging on to the Zoom meeting, Stefan, who reportedly spoke in a Scandinavian accent, had kept his camera off.

While on the Zoom meeting, Stefan asked Ash to screen share his Facebook page.

‘So I’m on the Facebook and he goes “oh, I can see you’re not set up for live events. You need to email yourself a link and then send me the link” I’m thinking maybe this could be dodgy,’ Ash revealed.

As the Zoom call progressed, Ash’s friend who was sitting nearby noted Stefan’s suspicious behaviour and urged Williams to disconnect the call.

Ash said that in order to test Stefan’s authenticity, he asked him to call back and he never heard back.

‘My mate has looked it up and this podcast scam has been going on offering entertainers, influencers blah blah about $2,000 US to go on a podcast,’ Ash revealed.

‘I don’t know what the end goal for Stefan is. I think he just wanted to get into the back end of my Facebook and I think I stopped him,’ he added.

One content creator commented on the video to share his experiences, writing: ‘I get so many of these. Always wondered what the scam was. Thanks for explaining. You don’t know anything about show business.’
