Influencer Shani Grimmond spotted in Brisbane during ‘holiday in Paris’

One of Australia’s most popular influencers has been caught telling little white lies about her recent holiday to Paris.

Shani Grimmond spent two weeks in the French capital, but delayed posting holiday snaps on Instagram until she was back home in Queensland – which led to some confusion when fans spotted her out and about in Brisbane.

Despite having returned to Australia, Grimmond shared photos with her 1.4 million followers of herself swanning around the city and tagged Paris as her location.

‘Only a couple more days in Paris! I don’t want to leave yet, this place is truly so magical,’ Grimmond captioned a clip of herself eating breakfast at her hotel on Sunday. 

Several days earlier, she shared a photo of herself dining at an upmarket Parisian restaurant, along with the caption: ‘Dinner last night was [chef’s kiss emoji]. I still can’t believe how beautiful this city is.’

At the time she was posting these photos, a user on the private Facebook group Tea Time spotted Grimmond shopping in Brisbane, reports Outspoken the Podcast.

Because she delayed posting photos from the trip, it’s unclear when exactly Grimmond was in Paris, but it’s likely she was overseas at the start of the month.

She began documenting her Parisian getaway on Instagram on April 18, so it can be assumed she was back in Australia by then.

Discussing her decision to delay posting about her travels until after she’d returned home, Outspoken host Kate Tauber speculated she may have had security concerns.

Ms Tauber noted that Grimmond had been robbed on holiday before after posting about her location in real time.

‘I think it’s really a smart move, because Shani has spoken candidly about how she was robbed during a holiday after she shared her whereabouts online, and it was found there was a direct correlation between Shani sharing her holiday details and her house being broken into,’ she explained.

In November 2015, a tearful Grimmond revealed on YouTube that a thief had broken into her home and stolen valuable items while she was on vacation in New Zealand. 

She claimed the intruder had stolen her camera, makeup and a set of keys. 

Ms Tauber likened Grimmond to Kim Kardashian, who was infamously robbed at gunpoint in Paris in 2016 after sharing her location on social media. 

‘I think people should be commending [Grimmond] for protecting her safety,’ she said. 

‘And I think more influencers should be doing the same thing, because it is really dangerous when you think about how much people share of their lives online, and who is actually out there watching it.’
