This is the life! Ingenious fisherman attaches a boat engine to an old swimming dock and heads out for a leisurely day on the lake

  • The marine mechanic had attached an outboard engine the makeshift pontoon
  • He and a pal looked relaxed as they set off – unlike Bella the dog, joked Molly

This is the satisfying moment a mechanic powers away from the shore on an old swimming dock which he had fitted with a motor for a carefree fishing trip.

Molly Shaw filmed her father Ron setting off across Rangeley Lake, Maine, on the unusual vessel with a fishing companion – with both men sitting comfortably in deck chairs.

The marine mechanic had attached a tiller-steered outboard engine to one side of the dock which powered the pair – and dog Bella out onto the water.

Ron, a mechanic, takes to the waters of Rangeley Lake, Maine, on the makeshift pontoon with a fishing companion – both of them sitting comfortably in deck chairs

But Molly suggested not all the crew seemed totally comfortable on board the bizarre craft, as Bella stood rigidly still as it moved across the water.

She says: ‘Poor Bella! Bella’s like “help me!” ‘

Molly’s video shows the launch of the motorised dock take place in gorgeous sunny weather.  Luckily, the water is flat calm and only a few ripples gently brush the side of the craft.

From his deck chair, Ron grips on to the tiller attached to the outboard engine and steers the craft away from shore.

As the small propeller slowly thrusts the fishermen through the water, he yells back at Molly to watch out for him as he comes ‘buzzing by’.

She replies: ‘I don’t know about buzzing by, but you’ll be going by.’

Along with the chairs and fishing rods, a couple of lifejackets are also seen on the old dock and Molly said it did not go far from the lake’s shore.
