Inside Mark Wahlberg’s luxury Byron Bay quarantine retreat

Mark Wahlberg is currently quarantining in a luxury retreat outside of Byron Bay. 

After arriving in Australia last week with his encourage, the Hollywood star flew to Byron Bay via private jet before making his way to the $2500 per night property.

It is understood that the 49-year-old was granted permission to skip the usual hotel quarantine and allowed to self-isolate at the private estate instead.

The countryside retreat features 24/7 security, including two NSW police officers, to ensure that the Boogie Nights hunk will be safe at all times and is following quarantine protocol.

There’s also a private ambulance on standby too.

According to estimates, the total cost of the two-week quarantine could set the actor back around $400,000.

The NSW Government website states that people returning from overseas are only exempt from staying at a quarantine hotel if there are ‘strong medical, health or compassionate grounds’.

The fitness fanatic reportedly brought an entire gym setup with him for the quarantine so he could stay on top of his workout regimen. 

Photos taken of the property show the muscular star standing shirtless by the pool in a pair of board shorts and slides.  

According to The Daily Telegraph, the father-of-four is Down Under to shoot a global ad campaign for online betting agency Ladbrokes.

He’ll shoot the commercial in Sydney after his quarantine is over and then fly back home to the U.S. 

Prior to his arrival Down Under, Mark was last spotted celebrating Thanksgiving with his wife, Rhea, and their sons, Michael, 14 and Brendan, 12, at a church in Beverly Hills.

Mark and Rhea, who have been married for 11 years, also share two daughters, Ella, 16 and Grace, 10.

Actor Zac Efron is currently in Adelaide filming his latest project, Gold, after spending much of the COVID-19 pandemic holed up in Byron Bay.

Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy and Chris Evans are also in Byron Bay filming Nicole Kidman’s new Hulu mini-series, Nine Perfect Strangers.

Bosch & Rockit starring Luke Hemsoworth and Isabel Lucas, and Seriously Red starring Rose Byrne have also been shot in Byron Bay this year.

Homegrown movie star Chris Hemsworth recently revealed why he and a swathe of other Hollywood A-listers are ditching Los Angeles for Australia – in particular Byron Bay. 

Melbourne-born Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky relocated to Byron Bay from LA six years ago, and it appears they’ve put the northern New South Wales town on the map for other international stars.

‘The weather is fantastic, and we’re very hidden away. I always knew I loved it here, of course, but this year has really solidified that for me,’ Hemsworth told The Australian Financial Review. 

The 37-year-old, who has been filming Escape from Spiderhead on the Gold Coast, said American stars are catching on to the lifestyle Australia, and particularly Byron Bay, has to offer.

‘People love Australia and they know how much talent is here, and what a diverse landscape for shooting we have,’ he said.
