Inside Nick Kyrgios’ surprising family home and the bizarre collection his mum keeps

Nick Kyrgios’ mother Norlaila is one of his most staunch supporters.

The depth of her passion for her son’s tennis matches was revealed during the first episode of the Netflix series Break Point.

During the behind-the-scenes look at the professional tennis world, it was revealed the Kyrgios matriarch has a collection of the tennis legend’s smashed rackets. 

Labelled the ‘villain’ of the sport, Nick, 27, is known for his aggressive outbursts during his match losses. 

To let off steam, he often breaks his tennis rackets against the ground, and it appears his mother has been collecting them over the years. 

In the Netflix episode, Norlaila could be seen sitting on a bed as she turned one of those rackets in her hands.

During a voice over she said: ‘I worry about him every day. Every day. Because he’s gone through some really unhappy times.’

Later in the episode, at least 15 broken rackets were shown in her bizarre collection, all resting on a shelf in Nick’s family home in Canberra. 

‘He just became aggressive. He was just so angry. Always angry at something,’ Norlaila was heard saying over the footage.

It comes after the tennis bad boy withdrew from the Australian Open and announced he’d be returning to his mother’s home for knee surgery in the coming fortnight. 

The shock decision came just a day before he was due to play his first-round match against Roman Safiullin in the latest hammer blow to the tournament.

He was Australia’s best chance of taking out a title at the grand slam and was originally battling an ankle injury that prevented him from competing in any of the warm-up tournaments before play started at Melbourne Park.

A routine MRI, which was done after Nick suffered discomfort in his knee, revealed he has a tear in his lateral meniscus and a cyst, his physiotherapist Will Maher explained.

He said the injury isn’t serious enough to be career-threatening and it only became a problem in the last two weeks.

The star said he was shattered to have to withdraw from his home grand slam, where many rated him a chance of going one better than he did at Wimbledon, where he lost the final to Novak Djokovic last year.
