Inside the Logies’ trashiest moments as ceremony moves to the Gold Coast

The star-studded TV Week Logie Awards will marks its 60th anniversary with a ceremony on the Gold Coast for the first time this year. 

And in the lead-up to the hottest event in the television calendar on July 1, Daily Mail Australia is reflecting on some of the trashiest moments in the awards show’s history.

From Karl Stefanovic’s ‘drunk’ morning-after TV appearance to Margot Robbie’s bizarre red carpet outfit before she found global stardom, the stars have certainly made a statement over the years.

While Margot always looked preened to perfection in elegant designer gowns at red carpet events, it was a different story back in 2009.

The Wolf Of Wall Street star, 27, looked worlds away from her Hollywood superstar image as she donned a garish scarlet bustier gown with a flamenco-inspired frilled hem. 

Boasting a deep all-over tan, she finished off the look with a pair of vertiginous patent platform stilettos.

She’s not the only attendee to miss the fashion mark in recent years, with Gamble Breaux turning heads for all the wrong reasons in 2016.

The Real Housewife of Melbourne star stepped out in an OTT get-up that left little to the imagination last year.

Gamble turned heads as she chose to accessorise with unusual leg jewels that overpowered her otherwise simple beige dress.  

The frock’s side split showed off her trim pins, as she partnered the bizarre look with a pair of glitter-soaked heels. 

Brynne Edelsten, the former wife of businessman Geoffrey Edelsten, also never fails to shock in scantily-clad ensembles on the red carpet.

Over the years, the famous face has shown plenty of skin at the TV Week Logie Awards, including a bright red mini number in 2013 and white tassel look in 2010.

Meanwhile, Susie Elelman caused a stir in 2014 when she put on an extremely eye-popping display in a busty plunging gown.  

Further attention was attracted to the feisty blonde’s frock at the time, as the one-time model wore the exact same dress to the Logie Awards in 1995.

He went down in Logies history while reporting from Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment Complex with co-host Lisa Wilkinson looking visibly worse for wear and confessing he hadn’t had any sleep.

In a 2014 interview, Karl admitted he had gone out and gotten ‘smashed’ like any other year – but due to video-sharing websites, the footage went viral.

‘This was the first Logies when stuff really started working on the internet,’ Karl said.

‘I remember seeing it on Today Tonight and going “Oh God.” I really was drunk, or at least I certainly looked and sounded drunk.’  

Comedian: Then peering down the camera lens, the television personality clarified: ‘I’d just like to say all the opinions expressed by me tonight are mine and not those of the Packer family’.

In 2010 Karl admitted that in a bid to avoid a repeat of his wild night out, he had been ordered to work as a red carpet reporter on Logie night, to keep him away from the free-flowing champagne.

A year later, he caused a stir once again when he thanked his then-wife Cassandra Thorburn’s ‘a**e’ while accepting the Most Popular Presenter award and the coveted Gold Logie.  

He said: ‘My beautiful wife Cass, who lets me go on these weird and wonderful excursions around the world… a great influence in my life.’

‘And she’s also got the best a**e I’ve ever seen,’ Karl added as the crowd laughed and Cassandra blushed.

Elsewhere, Andrew Denton raised eyebrows when he sat on James Packer’s lap in 1999 when he was tasked with hosting the ceremony.

‘Would you mind just drinking that James?’ he enquired, much to the amusement of the giggling audience.

It’s not just Australian names that have caused some controversy at the Logies, with many international names also making appearances over the years.

In 2006, American media personality Joan Rivers took to the stage with Australian entertainment guru Richard Wilkins, and appeared to be in very high spirits. 

‘We look like Nicole and Tom… only reversed,’ the late presenter said upon reaching the microphone.

Then going on to wave enthusiastically to the audience, she continued joking about former Hollywood couple Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, before exclaiming ‘grow up Australia’ in a bid to get the audience laughing. 

When Richard tried to intervene and address her, the Fashion Police star remarked: ‘Call me Ms Rivers, like you do in the United States’.

She then gestured towards the audience, saying: ‘They don’t know who the s**t I am’.
